This was me I'm not that vividly-colored anymore. Nowadays, I'm blending in with my car's gray paint. All I'm missing are the fresh cataracts. That way, nobody will notice that I'm there at all
Well if you don't get a move on, on your Tin Injun, you will do damage, with it sitting in the front yard, growing weeds.
Haha. It’s in a garAge. And I’ve already done damage to the starter as it’s in about 40 pieces. Right now I’m doing damage to the wife’s 09 bmw. Her radiator went out and there’s about 8 different hoses that all need replacing and they’re all about $50 bucks. Plus the radiator that’s 4x’s the price of a normal one. And a thermostat that cost $130. The bank has been broken
What's different about the thermostat? Show us. The radiator doesen't have to be aluminum. A crossflow brass one would do
The thermostat is in a housing and it looks kind of like a ball with coolant ports all over it one of which goes directly to the water pump mounted on the bottom of the sub-frame.(is that a word?) It’s a pretty cool design. Very easy to work on just EXPENSIVE. The radiator has a (eac. Environmental air control?) sensor on it. Something about making sure the radiators are magnesium coated. So, instead of buying a $600 radiator which comes with the sensor already, I can buy one from O’reilly for $210 and a sensor for a Mercedes which apparently uses the same radiator for $150.... I can take some pictures later if you wish.
Your wallet likely disagrees. I hate it when manufacturers of anything start to change things in a manner which holds consumers hostage, so that they can grab deep into someone's pocket. You could probably carve out the thermostat itself and then replace just the unit with a traditional thermostat which got filed to fit. Is it any one of the following?: https://duckduckgo.com/?q=thermostat+einheit+bmw&t=h_&iar=images&iax=images&ia=images
Here’s the old one, which looks fine: and here’s the new one installed down in the undercarriage next to the water pump
If you turn those 3 screws, it shouldn't bite you. It looks like the housing was still good and it needed only the thermostat. $130 seems like plenty of money for just a piece of plastic
