    Hi Tony,

I am quite a new member on that site, but I did spend hours reading everything and you are quite a gem in this place. Forget Cadillac ..... should go for a Lincoln Mark V ;) Just kiddin'
Seriously, I know how engines can drive us mad. If your Chevy is a pain in the #$%, you might go for a Country Squire. Seriously, 302, 351 Windsor or Cleveland are horses. They have never let me down in the past. Maybe I was lucky but it might be an interesting option if you feel that your actual wagon is a money pit. My advise would be that you should stick to wagons. Investment wise, an old Eldorado can always be interesting, but why not commit to both?

Well, hopefully you will stick around giving amazing advices as I have been noticing reading threads on this forum lately :)

have a mechanic look at it. I was so over my wagon the last few weeks, so not what I expected, did sooooo much work to a car that was represented as needing nothing, oh well wtfe.

long story short, bought it on eBay, was not looking but the advertised condition attracted me, after $3k+ I am really getting into it.

just got it back from a new exhaust (and someone stole the cat!) as it had numerous leaks (all recent and new) (the 88 felt lighter after the same job, not this one)
new alt (the old one had a bad diode and this was gonna cure the constant whine on the factory radio...didn't, but hey, caught it early)
carb adjustment after the overhaul and it stalled cold (seems better)
new trans modulator (to fix the hard and late shift that seemed to start after the trans service, seems better)
door locks diagnosis (may need the RF actuator replaced to cure the intermittent sporadic door locks individually working or not) did nothing, seems better with the motor running so just start it and give it some gas then hit the locks and they seem better
Blower motor groan on start, then goes away till next start (did nothing)
Brakes squeal until pedal touched and pedal seems a little low after the master cylinder was replaced (cheap but meaty pads, live with it, pedal is fine)
Tailgate rubs bumper trim since rear was tapped 30 years ago (living with it, don't lower it all the way and it's fine)
Horns don't both blow since new horns installed (yes they do)
New AC compressor roars (compressor is fine, it's the metal muffler, turn the radio up)
    and on
    and on

But it's a cool car. Now for more gas!

I'm sorry your 402 is giving you problems!! I hope this guy can fix it and you don't have to part with such a loss. And if you still decide to part with this beautiful ride, that it is at a profit.

Muffler plugged? Critters can make nests in the mufflers and will act like a clogged catalytic convertor and have no power.

You know, my exhaust fell off a few weeks ago, so I decided to put new on from the cat back, but I cut the cat out completely and now even my 307 Olds/200R4 has a little more oomph than it used to.

The mechanic is coming Tuesday (Oct 13th) to service the car. He said he should be able to quickly tell whats going on with it.

I will report as soon as I know. Hopefully its not anything major. If it is, I may have to wave good-bye to this gal as much as I hate to.

if you're not comfortable with spending $10-15 on a timing light and using it, I would stay away from 35-40yr old cars

    Outstanding!!!

Don't forget, you could always jack up the horn and put another car under it.:rofl2:

Seriously, let's hope your guy resolves the ghouls that haunt her. She'd probably love to get out there and strut her stuff. :thumbs2:
