I could hear the Afterburners on the F4's they used to crack our house's windows taking off from Corpus Christi NAS back in the day. My father used to call it "the sound of Freedom"

That Olds probably didn't have a Chevy engine in it

When I was a kid, after Dad came home from Vietnam, we lived at Paine Field Navy Housing (the former Paine AFB housing) here in South Everett, and every Summer the Lynnwood Rotary would put on, not just 'an,' but 'the,' Air Fair, and each year featured either the Blue Angels or the Thunderbirds, plus all kinds of other aircraft from around the U.S., and then near the end, the world. It was so loud when the F4 Phantoms of either team performed, that windows inevitably broke, even on our house, and since Dad was in charge of Sandpoint NAS/NS public Works, his Seabees were the repair guys. But also, I have soooo many stories, including my cousin (once removed) Maj. Highmiller, who was embarrassed by his mother, my Great Aunt Alice, when Dad brought her out to the flightline where the Thunderbird pilots were. My cousin was the announcer for the team, and as he's standing with the pilots, discussing things, he spots his mother, and says, "Hi Mom!" To which she brought the ultimate in motherly embarassment, by using his childhood nickname to address him back, by saying "Hi, Twink!" and he roared back, "MOTHER!!!" You see, my cousin's favorite snack food was Twinkies, and so he gained the moniker 'Twink,' which he did not tell anyone in the Air Force about....

That's, a Great Story Andrew, the only Planes Loader in the USN inventory than the F4's I can remember were the RA-5's, those Planes would drown out an F4, but they never seemed to fly in formation so you only heard 1, not 8 or 10 like you would hear the F4's. That Picture I posted brings back a lot of Memories.

My Fathers A4's were quiet in comparison.

I remember seeing the A3 Skywarrior (one per flattop, please) in my time aboard Constellation, and man, they were screechy loud, and without afterburners! I did get to see Blue Angels Skyhawks in action, and yeah, they were comparatively quiet. But I still think A6's stole the show on noise.
