Drove down to Southern California last Tuesday night. Left at 9:00PM and arrived at my wife's sister's house in Camarillo at around 1:30PM Wednesday afternoon. I was keeping the speeds down on this trip. Tires on the Ford Edge are getting close to replacement time, and I didn't want to push them too hard. Trip also took a little longer because instead of taking I-5 all the way down to the San Fernando Valley before heading west to Camarillo, I split off before Sacramento at the 505, then took I-80 and I-680 down to the 101. Unfortunately, that was right in the early morning hours, and we hit a mess of commuters. Slowed us down quite a bit. The drive further south on the 101 is a lot more scenic than I-5 though. Hadn't driven that stretch for quite a few years.

Also got fully reacquainted with metro L.A. traffic yesterday. Just like I remembered... Went Camarillo - Long Beach - Whittier - Camarillo.

Got to drive through some of the recent fire area. It had actually jumped across the Ventura Freeway (101) in a few places, primarily out around Thousand Oaks. Also took a short drive Friday out Pacific Coast Highway, and the fire got close to the highway there, as well. Quite a big area. Mullholland Highway, which is frequented by a lot of sports car drivers and motorcyclists, got scortched.

Ya! I kinda like that. I’d at least paint it all one color. It would be good for the kids. I could just lock them in thAt back cab and have a peaceful trip. I could even smoke if I wanted!!

I'm surprised the state, he got that plate from, allowed that. There was a guy here in WA who was able to get a plate that said 'GOTMILF,' and when someone narked on him, telling the state DOL what it meant, they vacated it and forced him to get another plate, at his cost. He appealed, and came up with some pretty crazy 'meaning' to the letters 'MILF,' but the state called BS.

They seem to know from somewhere about the cops not going to do a anything about it. Have you ever seen such overconfidence before? This took place in Portland. If they had ever tried something like this in New York, as Giuliani was mayor, a mounted brigade would have ridden up and corrected their brains with batons

Hahah. Pretty sure down here the citizens would have that handled that before the cops even got close.

There's your answer right there. Portland has a slogan "Keep Portland weird" It's it's own flavor of crazy and they seem to be quite proud of it. There are a lot of things that happen in Portland that wouldn't happen anywhere else.
