Great interior photos of that Pontiac! Those are the door panels I like so much with all that fake wood. The Pontiac wagon only cost $200 more than it's Caprice equivalent. But it had a far nicer interior. Note the power window switches. The Chevy just had the four buttons mounted on the door panel, while the Pontiac had a nice chrome panel that extended forward of the armrest to house them. That plus you could order cornering lamps on the Pontiac and not the Chevy.

I'd go for the '76 Pontiac Grand Safari. A friend of mine had that when I was in college. That thing was massive and massively cool. ;)

That definitely is a beautiful Pontiac wagon. I like how the door panels sweep in where the window switches are located. I know that somewhere in the mid-70's, Pontiac offered the option of adjustable pedals...now considered a luxury option...but it never caught on, until now. Does this Pontiac have that (or could have that) option?

I saw a 75 Grand Ville convertible at a show a few months ago with that option. I had never seen it before but if you google "1975 pontiac adjustable pedals" stuff comes up. It was a mechanical "ratchet" type lever next to the brake release on the lower left dash. I was amazed to see it.

Wow! I never knew Pontiac put such a posh interior in a clamshell!

Thanks, Kingswood...you have some great pictures in your archives.

Yeah, fortunately, starting in 1973 the Grand Safari basically took the exact same interior out of the Grand Ville... something that the other GM makes didnt do, as they seemed to take the interior from the lower-level models, which as mentioned, Pontiac did do in 1971-72, when they had the Bonneville interior. That interior on that Grand Safari wagon above is identical to the interior in my 1973 Grand Ville sedan... even the same colors. :)

Yes - it is nice. As mentioned, those are the same door panels in my 73' Grand Ville, but mine is not that nice unfortunately. I am not sure what material that "woodgrain" is made of, but it looks and feels like real wood! My power windows/locks are also mounted in that metal plated pod on the arm rest and everything still works, even after 37 years. Wow.

I THINK that option started in 1974 on the Pontiacs and lasted until 1975 I think... maybe 1976. It was a very rare option. See ad below from the 74' Pontiac brochure...

    see pic below.... :)

Thank you. Yeah, the 73-74 Grand Safari were quite plush for a GM wagon... seemed to be pretty well up there in a way with the Custom Cruiser and Buick EW.

Oh, also check out the interior of a 74' Grand Safari with the tweed cloth option... pretty nifty. Could be ordered in vinyl as well... NOTICE it also keeps mentioning how its the Grand Ville's interior. :) It says "think of it as a Grand Ville with a huge trunk". :D

You must be talking about the straps to pull the doors closed with. I remember those things being deeply anchored in the doors. My 95 Taurus has the armrest with doorpull built in,,,and the insides of the doors are coming off. All loose and rattley. Disappointing...
