Oh, it was available (the V6 that is). All in the quest of fuel economy. The one that dropped it in was the factory.
I believe in Chevette diesel automatic territory. 105 hp won't move 4500 lbs with any authority what-so-ever.
GM could get better fuel economy from this set-up, under certain conditions only, for publicizing statistics. An engine which has to work harder will consume more than one that doesen't
According to the 1976 Buick brochure, the only engines available in the LeSabre were the standard 350 and the optional 455. Buick did make a big deal out of its new V-6, but it was not available in the large cars.

Ironically, this makes the vehicle more valuable, because of its rarity, as long as the entire vehicle is kept original. I wonder if the original owner even bothered test driving it. At 3,8 liters, it's still big enough to be bad, if it would have been set up as a dual overhead cammed turbo-Diesel
Yeah, except I don't think any other GM full size could come with a 6 for 1976. The 1977 downsizing at least reduced some weight.
