I was going to move it to the “life story, and other miscellaneous malarkey “ but I couldn’t find it. Are you kidding me?! We’re working on page 14!!!
You mean like this? 1970 Chrysler 400 if I remember correctly. This block is all I have. I do have a set of 350 heads. Maybe I could Frankenstein something. The new cloth wires I’m probably going to get ARE cool looking. I’m pretty sure the new ones will be rubber insulated with cloth on top for that vintage feel.
That's not a Chrysler 400 block...the Chrysler big blocks have the dizzy in front. And besides, Ivy was referring to Pontiac big blocks, I think.
Pontiac casted only one block size. He could drop in the old four banger from a Tempest, though. It'll bolt up and save him money at the pump
I have a notebook which I had all the numbers decoded to figure out what this joker is. Could have sworn it was a Chrysler. But your right. It’s not because it has a “GM-1” on the front of it. I need that notebook because it’s got some info. On a bike I’m working on....where is that thing?!
Ahh ha!!! Found it! Don’t know why I thought it was Chrysler. Pontiac 400, 1973. It’s still not going in the car. I love the flat head!!!
Hey, it's your car. But think about this...that block, cleaned, dressed, shot-peened and machined, a pair of factory 6X heads, and a triple-deuce intake with matching carbs, set up with a decent cam and timing set, and painted that gorgeous metallic blue hue found on the 389 engines. Think about that before saying you want the flathead.
He only says that, because he hasn't driven it yet. Sooner or later, he'll get bored with it and will have to continually walk past that Pontiac block that's constantly staring at him, sending continuous telepathic signals. Maybe, he should shoot a hole through that block, in order to assure it's not going in there
Update: making some slow progress. I’ve got the steering column cleaned up and ready to install. I had an issue with the pedal plate that gives access to the master cylinder. Apparently it comes in two pieces so this is what I found in my pile o’ Parts: it took some head scratching before I realized what I had. These are two separate plate setups. The one on top is for regular brakes. The one on bottom is for a booster setup. I remembered I had seen this thing and figured it was a booster. the four bolts matched up perfectly with the plate. So now I’m faced with rebuilding the booster with a kit for around $180. It’s pretty krusty: or I can find the 2nd plate that goes with the manual setup. I’m not entirely sure that the booster pedal plate doesn’t need a 2nd plate as well but it covers the hole nicely and since the cat that lives in the basement has been sleeping in the car, I needed a quick remedy so I cleaned up the booster plate: and the column and gear: Then I put it all together: for the cherry on top! Now I can steer! Up next is brakes and battery. Stay tuned for page 15!
Sonofagun, it has an auto trans! I thought you were gonna torture yourself with a 3 on the tree! And pretty snazzy, it has gauges! Noice!
Of course, it has guages. Didn't you know that idiots were invented in 1955? How else are idiot lights to be explained?
yeah! I like that it has a temp gauge. Also, I thought I showed y’all this too. Not only do I have the hydramatic in the car now, but here’s two more!!! Plus an extra motor! All came with the car
That iron is so heavy that the three even managed to crack the cement underneath them. With five freeze plugs on each side, it looks like Pontiac didn't take chances
