What's it take to bump us into page twelve, already? I'd like nothing better than to have Grizz snap out of his overnight snooze, get the ritual morning Irish coffee, and then chase it down with a beer, on the next page
I missed so much here. I'm glad Grizz didn't jump off a ledge yet. He'd probably just get stuck in the mud now with all of the rain. Time to lay out the garage foundation and get his kids and wife to start digging.
Are you sure you want them to start digging, after almost having buried you in the concrete? You never know who else they might find buried there. As usual, they'll blame any find on the previous property owner. Glad to see you made page twelve
At least we are not getting the bad winter weather many places are. I need to find someone to put all the missing engine parts on my '55 Chevy wagon and get it going. I can worry about body work and trying to clean it up till later. I need everything from intake mainifold up. Don't even have tools anymore. Maybe Grizz will make a road trip in his rebuilt Pontiac to help me out.
Actually in the drawer below the silverware drawer I have a cheap set of wrenches, screwdrivers, plyers, and hammers. The intake is on. Just need a new carb, exhaust headers bolted back on, plugs, wires, HEI distributor, alternator, belts, radiator and AC condenser remounted, plus a million smaller things............ All of which makes me scratch my head and wonder where it all went, encluding several sets of tools. Yet, I no longer worry or care. I mostly watch the Blue Jays chasing the Cardinals, and the neighbor dog chasing squrrels. I stopped chasing my wife. She's too easy now to catch and I forgot why I chased her. It's enough to cause an old man to jump off a ledge!
Now and then, I bump into women that are so chaseworthy that I could never forget why I've chased them, if I were to do so. I'd turn Grizz loose into your crib. I'll bet he'd find all sorts of things of which you didn't remember were there. Maybe, even the embarrassing stuff
Rooooooaaaaaaad triiiiiipppp!!! Give me the coordinates and I’ll be there! I might stop at every dive along the way but I’ll make it! Ok. Here’s a question. I’ve located and connected all my ign. Wires. Starter, generator, ign. solenoid, coil. I want to start this thing! While doing this I noticed a “6v” on the coil... wow! I didn’t realize this was a 6 volt system. To be honest I didn’t know that was a thing. Here come the spring chickens!!! So my question is should I convert to 12v or should I find a 6v battery. I think it would be neat to run it like that, but there’s probably some good reasons why no one uses the 6 anymore. Also, can I hook a 12v battery up to it just long enough to hear it run for a minute or two?? Model T, maybe you have some 6 volts laying around from your heyday??
For some reason that sentence struck me as funny. But yes, 6 volt system is "a thing". I wouldn't take the chance of frying it with the 12 volt battery. Lots of folks convert their old systems to 12 volt, lots leave them at 6 volt. There are pros and cons to each.
All he has to do, to go over to 12 volts is to replace all bulbs and add a ballast resistor for the distributor of which all of them having points ran on 6 volts, up until ignition became transistorized. 12 volts will not damage the starter. It'll only turn faster. All that's left is the heater motor of which could either get replaced with a 12 volt type or have a step down resistor hooked up to it. I'd go with replacing the motor, in that case, as long as the dash is torn down the way it is right now. One from a '55 and up might fit
Check to make sure if it's 6 volt pos. or neg. ground before you attempt . Allot of cars and trucks of that vintage were pos. ground .
I think it is positive ground because I was reading about doing a conversion and that is one of the things that need to be changed. I’m thinking about leaving it 6. For now anyway. The wiring harness was decrepit and will need to be redone at some point, maybe I’ll convert then. I just want to see this thing run!!!
I never heard of an American-made vehicle having a positive ground. My old Triumph TR-3 had it and I just switched poles around. As far as I know, only Brit cars had it. Does the wiring harness have those fabric-wrapped wires?
it is not positive ground, but I think to convert to 12 I’d have to make it positive?? I don’t know. Anyway it doesn’t matter because I’ve decided to stay 6volts. Gotta find a battery. Yes it does have the fabric covered wires which, after I hear this thing run I will be replacing. I found this website. http://www.ynzyesterdaysparts.com/catalog/?seo_path=catalog_download I don’t think I’ll buy one of their harnesses instead I was thinking I’ll do one. Wire. At. A. Time. I think this will save some$$$
