When we hastily moved back north from Florida I put a lot of my old car titles in a copy of one of my old vehicle repair manuals. I can't remember which book or where it ended up. I'd never take anything flameable with me.
I know you’re all chomping at the bit! Maybe some of you are thinking i actually jumped!!! No!!!Everything happens for a reason!!! Even you Bruce!!! Your beautiful! Thank you for not taking my wagon. Thank you, thank you! God bless you and your “politicians promise”!!! Well this thread has had its ups, downs, mild confusion and heated discussions. In the end... I got an old car!!!!! And was able to keep the wagon!!! I couldn’t be happier with it. There are two and three of lots of stuff. About two and a half truck loads. I honestly can’t think of anything bad about this deal. The body has been off. Frame powder coated and from the looks of it everything gone over. Brakes, bushings, leaf springs differential, drive shaft, everything coated and shiny. the interior! Looks to have Also been redone although some time ago. There are four door panels and a back seat still to be picked up...all have been redone. A lot of stuff is in the original packaging like the fender skirts!! There is a complete parts manual for anything i might be missing. I haven’t even scratched the surface of what all is here and I’ve been sorting through it for two days. I took a bunch of pics and i am trying to join a Pontiac club! Guess i gonna start a thread but it wouldn’t apply to this forum would it?? Do i have to go the “the hamb?!”enjoy the picks!!! And page 11?
All along, you were suspected of riding the sofa, chugging beer, while watching old Super Bowl re-runs, days prior the this year's game itself. We couldn't know you were busy bagging the widow maker. Mission accomplished. You can now forget about Chuck. It indeed looks like he was seriously intending on restoring it. What did you find out, about the history of this vehicle? Did you get it dirt cheap? It can't be a Michigan car, because it would have looked like Swiss cheese, even way back in '79. Besides, who goes up north to the Salt Belt to get a car?
Well, looks like you got a solid car and a pile of parts. So, what are your plans for it? I think if you start a build thread in the lounge you should be just fine.
First thing he should do is to off those one barrels, so that he doesen't change his mind about bolting on the Edelbrock. The only problem with flathead engines was the breathing. Once he bolts on a blower, it should be about as good as a blown overhead valve engine
The plan right now is to get it all cleaned up and get to know her a little. Have a few beers on that bench seat. Surprised to find zero evidence of rodents or other critters, confirming the owner’s claim of being inside a climate controlled garage since the late 70’s. While I’m cleaning the car and making a list of what I have, what i need, and what the heck does this go t0, I’ll be trying to secure a title. I plan on going down to DMV Friday to register the bike i just put back together so i should be able to get some good info down there. I think it’s not hard if the car is 30+ years old and less than $3,000z I’ll do a thread in the lounge. (Thanks orth) The first step mechanically will definitely be steering and stopping. Right now it’s setting under the carport and I’d like to put it in the basement garage where the wagon is, but that requires steering and stopping as it’s a tight fit. The other purpose this car serves is to motivate my wife to get the permits for a garage out back. The city has a lot of rules about what i can and can’t build in my own backyard. I tried but can’t deal with government bureaucracies. I don’t have the patience for these people. My attempt to bribe the permit guy with $100 failed miserably.
If you've got a winch, the wife can run it, while you're steering and stopping. I'd watch it with the bribes. When they don't work, it's like playing Russian Roulette. Because, sooner or later, you'll run into a recipient who'll get you busted for attempting it. The penalty far outweighs the advantages. I know. It sucks, now that within the last 40 years, local governments want to dictate to property owners as to what they can and cannot do. I used to keep several cars on my parents backyard and even sometimes the front yard. But, now my sister who's moved in, after my parents kicked, even needs a permit to have a measly shed erected
What do you mean by "too personal"? I certainly hope, your interior isn't that color. If it isn't you'd have to spray the panels a matching color. So, that'll automatically take the smell out with it. If not, you'll just have to turn a cat loose into your car, in order to do up the rest. That way, the machine would be worth forking out bucks for
Well Grizz, I'm sort of disappointed that you didn't jump off the ledge. But you did good. That looks like a great project. The sad part of this is, me and many others have gotten projects that far and never were able to finish. At least some of us haven't died or jumped off anything tall, we just gave up and left our junk to slowly rust and rot. This car has another chance so get to work. Build it the way YOU want it. No more beer or swearing until it's sitting at it's first cruise or car show.
And decide NOW, how you want it, and force yourself to PROMISE to stick with your decision. Because I don't think we can take another ten-page "Come to Jesus" moment, OK? Whatever you decide, we're behind you 100%, but make the decision and stick with it.
