Thanks for that. I did look at it, but I didnt see the brocade for the 72 Caprice wagon... I will look again. I did request samples for my 73 Grand Ville, as it has had the seats recovered, but not with original type material, which I would like to do. Thanks again!

I found it! You are right, they seem to know their stuff! I will get a sample, then see how much this will be!

Sad part is that my original interior (vinyl) is still like new, so its a shame to cover it, but if there was way to not damage the original upholstery, this may be a way to preserve the original.

I now wonder if the 3rd seat was also covered with the cloth on wagons with the option. I have never seen another, so I dont know.

    Thanks again!

Optically there is a tag on one of the lower differential cover bolts (saying something like "limited slip lube only" or something like that. To make sure you have to jack the rear wheel and see what the opposite wheel is doing while turning the other.

Green..... you won't believe how long I searched for a 2 dr green Electra with green interior (and a white vinyl top)

Yes, my Country Sedan is this same color combo has the Ford in the ad. According to the Marti Report mine was one of around 3500 done in this combo out of 51,000 Country Sedans sold that year.

You'd really love our currency. Only the $20 are green! We don't have $1 bills anymore. How do you handle that? :rofl2:

Now that would be an interesting argument in court, for Madoff and our own recent Ponzi-scheme maestro. "I'm repulsed by greenbacks!" It's a whole new field for shrinks.:yahoo:

:sorry: Done with the obnoxious nonsense about green.

I started out showing off my new Buick, and ended up hijacking my own thread! :deadhorse:

lol.... maybe that green will grow on you! :)

When I found a green 72 Grand Safari I wanted a few years ago (like the one in my signature way down below), it was same green as yours, but it had woodgrain. My dad said it looked like a tree! lol. I loved it though.

Here is another thats been on the net for awhile now....

I would love to have a Buick wagon like yours in that color, but I would have to add woodgrain - so I know what you mean... some people just dont like certain colors on certain cars and you need to make it the color/colors you want!

Thats a neat story about your dad being able to pick out his car, but could not have anything "beyond" an Impala or LTD.... back then, the next level up Caprice or LTD Brougham wasnt but about $200 - $300 more, but that was alot of money in the 70s. :)

I know a lady (supervisor) at work that recently got a new company car... our company is switching from the 2007-2008 Chevy Impalas to 2010 Ford Fusions.... they sent her an email and her only option was color! They picked the base model and only let her get her color of choice. :)

I was looking at the 266 mile Estate Wagon's window sticker, and it shows that the deluxe steering wheel was a $12.00 option, and it is independent of the custom trim option.

    http://www.stationwagonforums.com/forums/gallery/showimage.php?i=302&original=1&c=7

I also noticed that this wagon has the heated rear window defroster option. Do any of you clamshellers on here have this? I would love to see a pic of it if you do.

Ya know...I really do need to get a life.

Thanks for that info. I thought I knew all there was to know about the 72' Buicks, but not so as much on the wagons. I didnt know that steering wheel was a seperate option. It must to have been like that on the LeSabre Customs that year too, because I have seen some LeSabre Customs with the 2-spoke wheel, but most had the custom cushioned wheel.

Its interesting though! Apparently it was like that up at least until 1973, because I have seen some 73' Buick Estate wagons with the 2-spoke plastic wheel, which is odd (as I have mentioned before), because in 1973, Chevrolet had a standard "custom cushioned" wheel as seen more more upscale cars even on the base Bel-Airs, while Buick hung onto that plastic wheel a bit longer, which was originally the only style wheel on the Chevrolets up through 1972, even on the Caprice.

Yeah, that particular 72' Buick Estate Wagon you posted the window sticker of has always caught my eye. I love it. Its strangely optioned, because it has some rare options and is a high optioned car, but lacks some more popular options, such cruise, bumper gaurds and cornering lights. That rear window defog is kinda rare too.... I have not seen too many optioned with it and most that do have it were northern cars when new. I knew a guy with a 72
Buick Electra 225 4dr that had the rare window defrost (which was the wires embedded in the glass, which was rare back then), but defog (blower) was also available. As expected, his car was originally a northern car... from New York I think. Also, even in the 1980s, most cars here in Tennessee were not optioned with that.... it wasnt until the 90s when it started becoming the norm on most cars. Well, you are in Texas and that was probably the same story there. Defog/defrost was rare on the pre-90s cars. I think it (blower type defog)was standard on the Cadillacs starting in the late 60s/early 70s.

I saw a 73' Bel-Air wagon (which had the lowest base price of any clamshell in 73') and it had the rear window defog, but to make it even more rare, it had the auto-climate control (Comfortron)! It was a sight to see. :)

    Hey Kingswood,

That BelAir must have been ordered by a penny-pinching climate nut! :xmas: Bottom-line models with high-dollar options and high-line models with few options...these cars have always intrigued me.

About the rear window defroster/defoggers, did the BelAir have the imbedded wires in the glass, or a heated air blower?
On the Buick sticker, it is called a defogger.

Thats what I thought too! They wanted options, but no chrome or woodgrain accents. lol.

Me too... odd optioned cars have always intrigued me too and GM had alot of them in the late 60s to mid 70s. I had a 1000+ post thread on this on the Buick forums about oddly optioned 72 Buicks... 75Riv may remember this. :)

That Bel-Air had the blower type system. I have personally never seen one with the wires in the window.

Sounds like that Buick had the blower type, as it was called "defog/defogger" and the wires in the window were called "defrost/defroster". The defroster was a more aggressive system. :)

Where was the blower mounted, and where did the air come out?
I picture a setup in the roof, but somehow I doubt that is the way it was done.

I would love to see this. Both systems actually.
