OMG the SAFETY regulations now!! lol

Did the mileage get any better with the engine off and the truck falling off a cliff?
Hey I got a few vintage wide collar shirts from the 70's, all very conservative solids, no crazy designs unfortunately...

I'd already bought a used 5th wheel camper but only had a 1/2 ton supercab truck. Sort of like buying the cart before the horse.
I found exactly the 3/4 ton truck I wanted at the local Ford dealer. A one ton rated camper special with a 460 engine. It had two gas tanks. The 12 miles to work and back, shopping, other town driving,
it got 9MPG. On the open road at 55MPH legal speed it got 9 MPG. Pulling the 5th wheel RV on flat ground it got 9MPG. Pulling the 5th wheel up a steep mountain it got 9MPG. It always got 9MPG, possibly even when parked!

For 87 octaine with white lightning addded. Plus we don't do windows, check under the hood, or air up tires. But you can buy lotto tickets and junk food. PS come inside to pay 'cause I ain't gettin outta this cage around you heathens.

Ya hit the nail on the head!

And, FWIW, any vehicle shut off and pushed down a hill or over a cliff gets great mileage.

Memories... Dad didn't drive. Mom drove old cheap Chevys when I was young. I remember going to Portland in a 1934 Chevy 4-dr. during the war so dad could work in the shipyards.
Getting back to hills, mom was driving a 1948 Chevy north of our hometown back in Illinois. It was only around five miles long on an east west narrow hilly two lane road. Mom was low on gas and headed west to our town. She'd gun it up the next hill, shut off the engine, and coast at least a half mile down and up hills. She'd restart the engine and do it until we got to a gas station near town.
We don't have any tall cliffs near home and getting a good fuel mileage over a cliff wouldn't last long. Also since the wheels wouldn't be turning the odometer you'd have no proof!

Oh, the War years. Both Mom and Dad have talked at length about it. Dad had to go across the Cascade Mountains to see his grandpa Dudley, a doctor, in '43, and since train and bus riding was out of the question, my grandpa Len found a friend who was heading West to Seattle, so he convinced the couple to take Dad in exchange for some rationed gasoline. Dad ended up riding in the rumble seat of the couple's roadster across Snoqualmie Pass on US 10, while rain was coming down in buckets.

What a ride that must have been. Something that no one will likely ever experience again. I'm sure he didn't enjoy it at the time, but it made for a great story. Thanks for sharing it.

You're welcome. I think every person, and every family has at least a few stories of riding in or driving motor vehicles. I've told two others on here that involved our beloved '66 Bug Cabrio, as well as others.

Our truck caught a cold the other day, coughing, missing, shivering. Hubby had to pick up some lumber and figured he'd have to wait until he got the truck into the doctor, a bit disappointed that he was having to chance his plans for the day. So I suggested he take the wagon. He doesn't like to use the wagon for such jobs because...well, it's not a truck. I took the Sonic and went to work. He called me later in the morning to let me know he was back home, everything went ok and man that wagon drives nice. :D
