    I can only say that back in 1968 telephone poles cost $450 to replace and 200 sq ft of corn was $200.

    I'll bet it bottomed out on a lot of roads and boat ramps. Plus 5MPG was okay back then.

    Those campers had their own set of wheels. If you blew a tire, it wiped out the side of your car.

    Our 1969 F350 Crew Cab Camper Special, with deluxe Kit camper, had a tri-power 390 with four speed, and just the 19-gallon tank at the back of the cab. It got about 5 MPG. Going down the then-new Interstate, 5 MPG. Climbing a steep hill, 5 MPG. Going downhill with the wind directly at our back, 5 MPG.
