Wagons in vintage Street scenes

Texan at Chicago Motor Show. Based on the 1959 Invicta four-door station wagon, the Buick Texan show car feature a sliding metal panel over the front passenger seating.

Amazing that only two years separate these two FORD wagons.
I've always loved 50s cars and trucks, but I definitely have a soft spot for 59 Fords now.

We rarely watch modern sitcoms on TV. Last night we watched three 1/2 shows in a row. Two of them, set in the 60's or 70's, had a wood sided 60's-70's station wagon in many scenes.
It was then I realized I don't know crap about 60's thru 70's wagons. I had no idea what year or brand they were. But it was interesting seeing station wagons being used by families like they were built for.

 

1953 Lloyd LS 300

In the early 1950's, German manufacturer Borgward built the Lloyd 300. It had a plywood body, completely covered with padded synthetic leather, hence the nickname 'Leukoplastbomber'. Metal was saved, varnish unnecessary, and dents were few.
