    I love this pic......one from each manufacturer.
    - Bulbuous '58 Chevy
    - Somewhat ugly '59 Ford
    - And the thoroughly modern (but under-appreciated) '60 Plymouth Valiant

    Chevelles? Tail lights don't match, and the wagons and one truck (El Camino / Ranchero?) looks odd.

    I agree. I think those clean lines were too futuristic for peoples' tastes, back then. You could even get them with a MEL, being that the Edsel was up there with Mercury and Lincolns. The E in MEL stands for Edsel, anyway. I hope I'm wrong, on the follwing. The Super Marauder 430 wasn't available in the Edsels which might have helped keep sales down. If anyone knows of Super Marauder availability for the Edsel, please notify us about it. I'd love to be proven wrong, on this one.:

    I like both of those. I also liked the 1954 Mercurys with the window side trim. Shucks I liked Edsels.

    In the '58 model year, there were FOUR Edsel models (from least to most expensive): Ranger; Pacer; Corsair: Citation
    - The first two were built on the Ford platform (118" wb). The second two were built on the Mercury platform (124" wb). The wagons were all on the Ford platform. The next year, everything was on the Ford platform.

    Yeah, that sucks, since those big block boat anchor engines were meant for service in the Edsel also. Otherwise, you couldn't get them on a standard Ford chassis.

    Agreed, Sir. Back then, the Mercury division built cars with charachter:

    Who cares about him. Check out his escort. Pretty hot for back then. Those goggles of hers ruin the picture, though.
    Wow! Must have been nice to be a duck, back then. This one owned his own real estate agencey. I dare any duck to try likewise, nowadays.

    Dad's first reenlistment bonus, back in '55, he bought a new Montclair 4-door. Since he and my mom-to-be were getting married later that year, she got upset, citing she had a car already (a '48 Chebby). But Dad had to make the sacrifice the next year when a new station wagon (a '56 Country Sedan my brother Tim fondly remembers) had to be bought for the growing family. But he sure loved that wagon, had the 202-HP 292 4-bbl, with a passing gear that wouldn't quit!
