I'm digging the.........so what happened here, slammed the hood with the air cleaner off and left it for how long to make that impression?
I agree, I wonder if they only needed the indentation for the 6 cylinder, and only used 1 pad as a cost savings measure, AMC was in a lot of trouble by 77 $$$$ wise.
Yes, that's what it was. The 258 stands taller, and for whatever reason, the engine compartment barely fit over it. Who knows why?
The Argentines who built AMCs under license using the Jeep Kaiser Tornado o.h.c. six know why. They solved hood clearance problems the old school way:
I forgot about the no performance Tornado OHC6. Only six cam lobes, no valve overlap as the lobe opened both valves. My Uncle had one in a Jeep PU, was the slowest truck I ever drove.
It was designed to pull and not necessarily to win drag races. Why is it that it was always the same narator who did all commercials in 60's television? Here, Argentine Tornado fans toying with 2nd generation Tornado sixes:
I also remember a never ending cam driveshaft seal replacements, several under warranty and a few more after it ran out. My uncle said it was derived from a military design. I just always think of rev happy engine when hearing OHC, the Tornado 6 was not that way.
If you wanted a rev-happy ohc 6, you had to go visit the Pontiac dealer: https://www.hemmings.com/blog/2013/...pontiac-firebird-sprint-ohc-from-john-zs-pmd/
I still own one of those, but a 69, and not exactly stock anymore with the stroked 250 now a 301 OHC-6. Its fun, Oh yeah, that's were my username comes from.
