Sold for around $4,154 at the dealer on Nov. 20, 1968. I would have expected the selling price to be a lot more for a loaded big Chevy.
It is fairly welll loaded... But getting a 2bbl motor and 14" wheels probably killed it for many at that time.. I would think most would get BB motor with a 4bbl... The listeds price of almost 9G's seems a bit optimistic given the dash is a mess, both seats are in need of being redone,, missing Estate trim and,,, well over all condition ...
Note there was an unexplained discount of over $800 plus a 1965 trade-in that brought a whopping $25.
Interesting car. The 396 2-Barrel was the low horse option in '69. Also, last year for the 14 Inch Wheels (although 15's may have been an option). The '70 went to 15's although still had the 4 3/4 Bolt Circle. Starting in '71, the Bolt Circle went to 5.
Is that a '65 or '55? I see it notes "Wagon 2 Dr." below it. Sounds like it could have been an interesting trade-in
Looks like they mean '55. Looks like they typed a 5 over the 6. Also, there was no 2-Dr Wagon in '65, unless it was a Chevelle 300. Speaking of '55 2-Dr Wagons, I hope it wasn't a Nomad, lol. Back in '68 though, they weren't no where in demand like they were in the later years.
There must of been some "pencil whipping" on that sales invoice. I don't think the car would have sold that low new. And $25 for a trade in......hmmmm?
Not sure about the Sales Price, but the Trade-In Allowance would be about right back then, believe it or not. We used to buy cars as low as $10 in those days. We bought a '56 once and drove it home for $15, lol. Bought a beautiful '55 for $25. Only needed a battery and some air in the tires. My '58 348 Nomad was more though at $50. My best deal was a '56 parts car. I paid $1 for it.
The sales price is probably correct. I traded my 68 Mustang GT in for a 72 RoadRunner in September of 1971. The RoadRunner was 3200.00, they allowed me 1200.00 for the Mustang. About 1975 I bought a 57 Chevy for $1.00. Needed brakes (badly) and a radiator.
