Thanks Tedy. I'm not sure either, but might try and read some more into it. The guy at the auto store didn't mention anything along those lines, but did suggest that I may need to wire in a resistor to slow the flashing down, as the LED has less resistance than old school bulbs. Turns out I didn't need those.

Finishing my LT1 engine swap.

 

Just remove the sets and carpet from my 1967 Mercury Commuter. Getting the seats redone and going to install new carpet. Anyone have a recommendation on a place to get carpet. Going to go with the 80/20 loop unless someone has a better option. Also found a build sheet behind the rear passage seat still in good shape! Any help would be great. Thanks,

 

Im trying to figure out how to get the interior out of the back of my 84 custom cruiser haha

 

Drove about 90 miles, recharged the A/C and found the yard sale grade recharge kit I have leaks if it's open enough; it's not the hose, it's the open/close pin/adjuster. It still charged the system enough to make a difference though. After that, started painting a few areas with touch-up paint starting underneath the plastic on the interior side of the tailgate and spilled maybe half the $15.90 container of paint on the plastic filler between the bumper and car body like a young inexperienced goofball, then cleaned it up but didn't take the bumper off. The tailgate does have a few rusty areas, mainly on the bottom and on the sides. Also painted on the car body behind the lower sections of the driver's side door as there was bubbling paint but solid metal.

 

I moved my wagon out of the garage so I could get my GTO out since the fall and test drive it. No problem except for my gas gauge decided to bury itself past full. The ground wire tests out fine so I have a bad sender or ground at the sender. It's worked fine for 48 years and the thing decides to go now, they sure don't build stuff like they used to.

You need a 1984 GM Fisher Body service manual.

Ol' Beastie has developed a rather infuriating problem with what I assume to be the starter motor. No matter how charged the battery is, all I hear when I stick the key in and turn the ignition is a very loud whirring noise. Needless to say she isn't moving anywhere for a while. Anybody got tips on how to fix this crazy thing?

Regarding what I've done lately, I scrapped the idea of wiring up an 8-track deck in favor of a more modern CD-cassette combo. It'll mean modifying the plate thing behind the stereo, which was built for 2-post cassette or radio decks, but I think it'll be well worth the effort. The biggest hindrance lately has been a total lack of funds for repairs, because I made the idiot decision to buy a car on a payment plan which eats up most of my paycheck. So there's that. Congrats to those of you with enough initiative to get off the couch and actually work on your wagons. I envy your motivation.

 

You have one of two problems: the Bendix drive is shot and the pinion gear won't move out to engage the ring gear, or your ring year's missing teeth. Before getting in, see if you can bar over the engine 30 or so degrees, then attempt to start it. If it begins cranking, the noise you were hearing may have been the missing teeth. My friend Steven's Grand Marquis had that problem, and you know the only way that kind of a problem gets fixed.

 

I agree with Andrew's diagnosis. You could always try the old ballpein hammer trick. Crawl under the car and whack it a few times (not TO hard) and then try starting it.
The starter shouldn't be hard to get to and they are usually simple to remove. You can take it to a local battery shop and they should be able to bench test it.

 

Many moons ago (it seems) I took the heater box out to replace the core. It had been leaking for quite a while before the major leak, and there was rusty dusty leaves and all kind junk in the box.

Whilst I waited for the new core to be shipped form the US, I pulled the entire box apart and reconditioned it throughout. I also pull the motor apart and re co'd that as well, and got a much freer spin. I stripped all the rust from fan blade and spray painted it before putting it all back together.

I also cut some foam gaskets for all the outlines of the box, and it has created a really air tight seal. The additional airflow through the box in noticeably better than before.

I'm also struggling with a leak in the PS system. A while back, I was in the process of sealing the leak with silicon on the outside, which worked. However, in a recent removal, I have snapped the high pressure outlet thread off its weld inside the pump., which means I can't tighten it fully, and new has a small leak there.

I've taken it to a PS/Trans shop, and the guy there is going to help me remove, and rebuild it. He has also agreed to let me watch/learn on some transmission and drive shaft leaks that I have too.

I walked into the shop, and he has a 65 Mustang on on hoist, so was super excited to see my wagon, and reckons he know the 289/C4 set up backwards. Good news, as I am trying to build a network on connections closer to home.
