GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) — Meteorologists have confirmed that snow flurries fell in parts of North Florida early Saturday. The Tampa Bay Times (bit.ly/1OOi5rR) posted photos and videos of the dandruff-like specks that fell briefly Saturday morning. The University of Florida Weather Center says the rare snow flurries hit Gainesville and surrounding areas as temperatures briefly dipped below freezing. Cold weather shelters have opened in many parts of the states with temperatures expected to touch the freezing mark again late Saturday and early Sunday.
We live 50 miles west of the University of Fl. Possibly students out celebrating and needing to wash their heads with "Head-N-Shoulders" were roaming the streets shedding dandruff. When I got up bright and earky 9:ish Saturday morning the grass wasn't even frosted like I expected. So far here the Azalias and other shrubs are still blooming and the grass is green where the moles haven't built mountains. Yep those pesky moles are back again worse than ever. 72 degrees and sunny. Dozens and dozens of motorcycles out prowling the highway as we found our way home. It's difficult to believe that only a short distance north people are suffering cabin fever and building snowforts. We did stop down the highway at the reconstructed Fort Fanning while wearing T-shirts and got quit a chill off the river breezes. This has been my snow report for today.
Sorry for all the East Coasters who freaked out with the recent snow storm. Remembering back to 1966 we had the Mother of all snow storms here in Rochester. Snow bound for almost a week. Snow drifts so high we could climb on our porch roofs. The city brought out earth graders to clear streets. As kids we had a ball and picked up a lot of cash shoveling. Neighbors helped each other out. Life seemed so simple back then. Yes, there was some stress on our parents but they knew how to deal with it.
So guess what??? We got more snow. It was sooo wet and heavy. Driving to and from work was very slushy and sloppy. Even in 4 wheel drive I could feel the truck pulling from side to side. But it was so pretty the next morning. I took a few pictures so you folks who didn't get that last nor-easter could have a look see. These pictures were taken from my veranda about 7:00am. The sun was just coming up and everything looked blue, it was so quiet and very pretty. Enjoy
Thanks fannie. It really does look nice from here. Love your yard and scenery. Almost makes me want to move to Canada or Illinois. Almost!

Still don't have much snow, but damm it's cold out. http://www.wmtw.com/weather/frigid-temperatures-to-stick-around-through-the-weekend/37959290
Here in NW Florida it's a chilly 68 degrees with a low tonight of 52. With the wind chill it could be colder! Back where we were supposed to be 24 with wind chill of 11 and 4" of snow so far. Personally I'd rather get email here rather than mail there. The house is over the mail boxes.
