After looking again notice the small mounts of snow in the grassy shaded areas and on the main highway. This ain't LA!
It's fun studying these old photos to see what's really there.
Being from the midwest I understand the black ice thing.
I remember driving an 18 wheeler on I-74 in Illinois along with another company driver and stopping because of very slick weather. We'd parked barely off on the shoulder. When we were standing there deciding if we should go on both our 18 wheelers slid off the edge of the shoulder onto the grass. We figured it may have been too slippery to go on at that time.:yikes:
    Gee I miss Illinois.:cold:

So much for all the macho drivers here blaming the woman driver as usual,.

I Drive 30 wheeler off road and on road in the winter, in the mountains in the north west, usually chaining up all drives, and full lock rear ends to get in and out of the bush,.
Sometimes i get called on to to figure out what happened and to untangle and recover the iron,.I,ve heard lots of wild and wonderful stories to cover up the truth,.
Some of you soft southern folks in the warmer area's like to watch this kind of trucking on tv,.

Phantom 309 just where is HERE?
As for the macho drivers, usually male type, I was an 18 wheeler driver in the midwest. I saw that black ice and feared it more than deep snow. Usually you can get some traction in snow and keep going, unless the drifts are too big.
The part I remember most was when 4-wheel drive trucks became popular in central Illinois. Those macho drivers figured as long as they had 4-wheel drive kicked in they could drive on ice, snow, and about anything else. I'd swear 90% of them ended up in the center mediun or off in a corn field within a few miles of passing.
As for accidents and not so accidental wrecks, the truth is often stretched, just like fish.:yup:

    That's quite a blanket statement...

And then you follow it up with the statement bellow:

I'm confused. Are you Erroneously stating that "all the macho drivers..." ie the men on this forum are chauvinist? Or that every man on this forum looked at that photo and came to the conclusion that the wreck was caused simply by the fact that the driver is female?
And then in the next breath implying that everyone who lives in the Southern half of the county are "soft" and therefore can only learn about such things as trucking and bad weather by watching Television?

I'm not the PC police, but I have always found this forum to be a welcoming, inviting place. However, I am taking great offence to your comments and what you are implying.
And I must add, I am not easily offended.

Out of the three people there who do you suppose was the driver of the Rumbler?:coco:
The comments about the Rambler sideways on the off ramp was my fault. As far as my comment, I'd guess I am right that it was the female. However on black ice or any slick surface a person's sex has nothing to do with it.
After living in the deep south over 21 years and most of my life in the midwest, I can say how people drive has nothing to do with their sex or where they were born. For some reason many drivers now have a very bad "get outta my way" attitude and being polite and safe no longer matters.
Don't be offended. Most of what is not educational here is in fun..

The miles on my body are starting to add up. This week and into next week is just about going to kill me....
    - Monday, 11.23.15: Drove with the wifey up to Portland to pick up the #2 daughter, who had flown up from So Cal.
    - Thursday, 11.26.15: Unplanned trip. Drove over the Cascades to Madras, OR. to pick up my niece and her son. She had panicked in the winter weather, and spun out on some road ice. Her son-in-law drove her vehicle with additional family members back over the mountains, caravaning with us. Total driving time: 8 hours.
    - Friday, 11.27.15: Return trip back over the mountains, to Madras, with some of the family members, who's own vehicle was unsuitable for a trip (no heat, no defrost). Total driving time: 6.5 hrs. No chains required on either trip.
    - Sunday, 11.29.15: Drive down to Orange County, returning #2 daughter to her abode, and resolving some issues she has with her Mazda RX-8. Probably a 3-4 day trip.

This will be upwards of 2700 miles in a week and a half.....
