Been there, done that, on many customer's cars, and even my own '83 CP, once upon a time. It's just too bad they couldn't have come up with the design that eventually ended up on the 2000's Chebby/Jimmy trucks, one large stud with nut at each end, at 90* offset to each other.

The rear shocks on a 55-57 Chevy wagon are not bad to change.

Somebody on the Impala forum came up with the idea of using a u-bolt in the top mount.

Did a little "Rattle Can" restoration on the tail gate. Went down to the local paint shop and had them match the paint and put it in a aerosol can. Turned out great!!!!!! for cheap!!!!!

Looks Great! Nothing like a little aerosol overhaul.

Been busy lately on other projects and spend a lot of time checking out or collecting ideas for my ongoing 66 Malibu Wagon 2door Nomad conversion http://www.stationwagonforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=29015
One of the ideas I have been going over is a two tone paint scheme. The problem was the way the Malibu body line fades away near the B-pillar. It would not allow a good breakoff point if I chose to paint the top a different color.
To solve the problem, I fabricated and welded in a small section extending the body line with a slight upturn toward the B-pillar drip rail. I now have a defined line to follow if I decide to go with a two tone color combination.
My interior choice is Red and I chose GM Graystone Metallic for my body color. Now I need ideas for a top color which would be separated along the body line with a red pinstripe. One possible choice I liked is GM Tiara Tan Metallic.
    The search continues.

Have you discounted the easiest color combos? A different shade of gray, white, and black?

I prefer a lighter color for the top. A lighter gray or silver metallic has also been a consideration. Whatever I choose, I want it to go with a red interior.
I wish I knew how to photoshop. That would be a big help.

Nice to see you found your way back here. At least you have an excuse not to work on your cars. I just move mine around and still don't have any paying projects.

I reinstalled my clamshell the third seat--from memory. It doesn't seem right. I thought the seat bottom stayed anchored when the seat back folded forward. But I've got it so the seat pivots underneath when the seat back comes down. That gap looks awful. Someone help me out. What've I got wrong?
