I saw an old panel truck with a complicated ramp and set up so the driver could get his wheelchair in and out the back and still up front to drive.
Amazing workmanship and costs to do these.

Would not bother me at all, all the power to the owner what ever the car is. IMO it all comes down to....It's your ride, do what ever you please, and if you are in a wheel chair .... WHAT????, you can't enjoy a cool ride just because it's a #'s matching what ever and it may hurt a purist's feelings?..........

So lets agree that we disagree and move on. :D

That Chevelle was done at the Fantom Works shop in Virginia. It was featured on one of their programs on Velocity. As for the car being numbers-matching or not, does that really matter??? It is the owner's car to do whatever the hell he wants to with it! Would you rather he left it bone stock, and he just sit in his wheelchair, admiring it parked in his garage? If the owner were to resell this car, there is an extremely small number of potential buyers anyway, and I'm certain he doesn't care a lick about that. And my kudos to the disabled vet that owns the car, both for his service and for having something done where he can enjoy the car with his family!

You can get the same 'kicks on Route 66' with all that's now available for cars. And as a veteran and a temporary disabled myself, far be it from me to begrudge anyone anything that makes life easier for them. BUT, there are a small colony of vehicles left, that if altered from original factory design, is lost forever as an original factory car, no matter how good it's been taken back to its original form.

Temporary, what dos that mean? I spent almost 2 years learning to walk again 2001-03 and in daily physical rehab, I met a lot of people who were temporarily disabled, broken leg, arm, etc. saw many temporaries come and go in that time, also met a one guy that was there before I got there and sadly said good bye while he was still there. I'm considered partially disabled and although I have learned to do a lot of things again, there is a lot more I'll never be able to do again and I have to be very care full for the rest of my life. And yet there are people like this car owner who are a lot worse off than me so let him and the others get there kicks on route 66 and do this to a Hemi Cuda for all I care.

I'd bet if you put his shoes on for a few days..........

Let's not let this get out of hand. I agree that numbers matching is no big deal to many of us. It's still a hobby and what ever the hobby, collecting stamps, baseball cards, or playing with old cars of all kinds, the main thing is have fun and make it so any owner, handicapped or not, can get out and enjoy the hobby.
I've known and met several in wheelchairs that had to ride in the back of vans or sedan deliveries. Yet others who had them redesigned so they could wheel right up front and using controls, drive themselves. The only parts I've wondered about is how in the world they could afford all that special custom work and how was some of it possible.
I'm not handicapped but getting too old to get around at car shows. I think it's great those confined to wheelchairs, scooters, etc have a way to enjoy car events or whatever sport they are into. Having some fun is all that counts. Who really cares what becomes of these cars later on? Hopefully someone else will benefit.

This particular car was a SS clone to begin with from what I remember.

Sitting down here in Florida looking out at the sunshine and 80+ degree temps it's getting hard to comprehend winter further north. There were two local cruise ins Friday nite even in our tiny town.
It's short shorts, and tank top weather, suntan lotion and dandiline pickin time!:stirthepot:
