I had my rates hiked up by the good hands people for the same reason, basically, I'd been driving a long time with no accidents. I was due to have one. I can give you other examples of stunts they pulled on me, but I can tell you they are not my insurance carrier any more. I have an independent agent who watches out for us now.

Thanks for the valuable advice! One more thing I'd like to add: I do believe that saving money can waste it in some cases such as not maintaining a building; but if it's far too costly in non-monetary terms to keep it, ditch it. One building I used to go into should just be torn down already, either that or the second floor torn off since it's falling in on the first floor.

Thanks Brad. This happened a long time ago. I never did have the same company my mother did. Considering I've only been in one major accident, except the time I ran into a parked palm tree stump, I don't have much insurance claim experience.
As for that small palm tree that ran out in front of my brand new Dodge plastic bumper, I was very happy with my insurance company.
I agree, no matter what it is, cheaper is not always better.... or cheaper in the long run.
I'm also sure no mattter what company and agent we have, the agent has a lot to do with it.

Although I believe there are good things which are free, that's just it: Is there any real reason to pay someone to work on my car if he installs the carburetor on backwards (so-to-speak - I don't know if that's possible) and costs me more than if I were to take it to another slightly more expensive place? I would have needed to go there anyway.

    On topic....?
Well it's enough to drive me to drink.:drink:
While I doubt many carburators are mounted backward but I understand your point. But yes they can. They can be adjusted wrong and not be rebuilt correctly.
There are many shadetree mechanics that do mess cars up more than when they recieve them for repair. Then it costs their charge and another garage to finally get it right.
Sadly this is the reason many cars end up being traded or scrapped.
There's a fine line in overpaying and trying to get something done cheap.

:)On the other hand, there really are many things in life that are free. We have finally gotten to that age where we can see it and are enjoying what's right in front of us for free.
Now if only I can afford alll the tax hikes and other increases. We bought a smaller home far far away and the taxes are already five times what we've been paying. :slap:

And then I've heard of garages that "find" things which are "wrong" with cars. Well, they won't be around long if they keep doing that. :sweep:

Yep, and sunshine is one of those free things which in turn gives us all our food and air. There are also some nice state forests near me; Clear-Creek, Cook's Forest and Allegheny National Forest. Maybe there are more? I've never been through the majority of Allegheny National Forest yet.

A bit off-topic here but I do like this forum. It's like riding in a nice cozy station wagon; Just kick back and enjoy the ride, and there's room in the back (and sometimes on the roof) for cargo along with (sometimes) a trailer hitch. Keep it fixed up and it'll ride well for as long as you'd like, sans if it gets hit by a big meteorite or something; then you'd need to get another one based on the same idea.

Interesting they think I will accept $800-900 and keep the car.
Altho the man looked at it and realized and even said " Wow you have a lot of money and work in this car" and I know it's his job. He was pretty sure of the response he would get on that. And that he got!

I guess some entity is having a hard time evaluating the car. Some CCC deal they use.

I already know what I will find an acceptable price solution.

'CCC' is short for Certified Collateral Corp., a company that sells auto body estimating systems, and also does market surveys to value total losses. I used both services during my time in the auto insurance claims industry. Company name now is CCC Information Services.

Get an electronic copy of the report, e-mail it to me, and I will pick it apart for you. Their valuation system does have some flaws, particularly when it comes to vehicles that are getting to be older, and rarer.

Check your PM box in a couple minutes.....

Actually very few that have "sold" he told me to look.

I checked 71-76 all Buick Olds Poncho and Chevy. they ranged from high 3000's to over 10,000. And then ya got that NICE white Pontiac on there now! Starting at 3500 and buy it now for 6500.

I can get one that looks just like mine did when I got it, but has rust in the rear windows area( Mine was and still is clean) and he is selling it for a derby ride and wants 2900 and he will probably get it. Just the thought of all that work all over again.............. I want to do my 56 sooo bad I didn't want to redo another daily driver LOL

Also need to get a price on a 455 Pontiac Like my friend said today I am nuts if I let them take my engine. The adjuster did ask if I kept receipts. I said NO I wasn't planning on needing them, I was building what I wanted and really was going to build it. Money and a record of it was not of concern to me at that time. Plus I do all my own work too.
