I couldn't imagine paying all that money and having that much trouble with a new vehcile. I've only bought one new vehicle in my life and that was a 95 Ford F150. Before it had 5,000 miles, I had it in the shop several times. Most of those were trying to get it aligned which they couldn't do until I ditched the cheap OEM tires. Seat stitching started falling apart and they replaced the cover. Specs of rust started showing on the front fenders and they said they saw it before and think it's from being transported by rail adn they repainted the front fenders. The worst is when the manual transmission went out before 5,000 miles. Apparently, someone forgot to put fluid in it at the factory. :slap: Anyways, I want to discuss the being stuck in the middle of the road. I would suggest if you can't get your car pushed out of the way to a safe spot, put on flashers and get out and at a safe distance. I would never sit in my car, even in the emergency lane. I had a good friend who got hit and killed in the emergency lane several years ago when they ran out of gas.

...so, there's more to the story it would seem....

It seems to me there may be things wrong with your car and possibly others that they don't want you to know about. If it were me, as long as I didn't get the shaft I'd be happy to get another car.
I'm afraid as time passes there will be a lot more of these surprise malfuctions and more accidents because of where they fail.
People talk about how great computers are. Even this thing I am typing on acts up more than a spoiled brat at Toys-R-Ya'll.:)
And like before, this is just my opinion.:D

I would never sit in my car, even in the emergency lane. I had a good friend who got hit and killed in the emergency lane several years ago when they ran out of gas.
In another life long long ago I was a truck driver. I saw way more cars and even RV's on the side of the road rear ended. Keep in mind, we read all the time of police with emergency lights flashing being killed while along the side of the road.
Many drivers stare at the disabled vehicles and wander right into them.

The good thing is I've not spent a dime on this; it's all been covered under warranty, of course, being still a "new" car. As for sitting in the car while waiting for the tow truck - good point. I could have easily gotten out and waited on the sidewalk the first time this happened on Sunset Blvd...don't know why I didn't think of that, lol. The second time however, I was in a very questionable neighborhood at night. Lesson learned. Sorry to hear about your friend, Eagle. :(

Now I'm p*****! I was talking to one of my sons. He told me he saw in a car magazine about millions of Dodge trucks with off shore made airbags that are potentially dangerous. There is a recall. Seems that they can expode and shoot metal particles into the chest of the driver.
Dang I love modern vehicles. I've been driving this time bomb for ten years now. By coincidence I owned it a week when I accidentally rammed a Palm tree trunk that I'd forgotten about while waiting for this same kid at school. It totally destroyed the plastic fancy bumper and the Erector Set subframe holding it on. I was probably doing 2MPH which did not make the air bag go off. But what if it did? :slap:
I didn't plan on writing on this stupid thread but now I am really p*****!

This has been in the press for weeks. The problem isn't Dodge, it's the airbag manufacturer in Japan. Suspect airbags from this manufacturer are used in Honda, GM, Chrysler, and many other vehicles. Honda just announced a 52,000 car recall for the same issue.

I meant spending the money on a new car. I expect issues with my old junk, but wouldn't with a newer car.

OH! Haha, good point. This buy-back thing should prove interesting. Can't wait to learn more next week.

Personally I bought a Dodge and I feel Dodge installed the faulty airbags. I bought American made in America....sort of. If Chrysler weren't so greedy they'd made their own airbags.
    I'm still venting!:slap::cry:

I'm not sure how much of a new vehicle is actually produced by the manufacturer. They use vendors to supply many of the parts.

Our government bailed these auto manufacturers out and they spend the money in foreign countries. Seems like we're helping everyone but our own. So sad that we can't buy much made in the USA.

I don't know how far back it goes but I do remember the radio in one of my 55 Chevys was made in Mexico.
As far as cars and parts being sourced out, that's happened ever since the first car. Remember the Briggs and other bodied Model A's and the Body by Fisher GM cars? Many engines and drive trains in early cars were made by other companies who just built the bodies.
The difference was then companies and employees were proud of their work. They may be proud now but when they can save a penny they will cut corners.

I want to know when some bright spark decided that ole Henry was wrong, and did away with his carefully assembled vertical integration of manufacturing! It used to be that when you bought a Ford, everything but the tires was made by FORD, often out of raw materials mined by, guess who! Now, they all seem to use the same cheap $h!t parts. Even BMW got caught in the air bag fiasco. This is why I buy old. Remember, there is no such thing as a 20 year old lemon! I refuse to have airbags. I HATE ABS brakes. I don't even much like fuel injection! I do, however, like electronic ignition. Setting the gap on points at -20 is not fun. Been there, done that. No thanks.

Even the early Ford tires were made by one of his best friends.

Yes sir- I have to agree there also. The other problem is that Delco is now in communist China and the "new" points you buy are cr@@! and don't last or even work sometimes. I try to get "Bluefires" are even they are junk. I bought my 1989 Crown Vic over the Chevrolet specifically because it had fuel injection.
So I guess we al do like some engineering improvements of the newer cars but hate the plastic pieces (even vaccuum hoses are plastic) that break, and the computer controlled everything that can haywire out or like my case, burn up a fuel control and shut me down when the actual fuel pump still works.:slap:

    Fun, fun, fun!
