    Hello Wagoneers,

Proud to have owned my Mercury since the birth of my 2nd son in 2004. Picked her up in Lander Wyoming from the granddaughter of the original owner. I still have the original owners manual and keys. She's a beauty!

She's currently in the shop getting a new tranny. Can't wait to get her home!

    **THE BIGGER ISSUE**
Where I'm really worried is the gas tank. I've had it repaired and lined and the leak seems to be worse than ever. These are impossible to find. I'm definitely in the market if any of you fine folks has one. Please feel free to contact me via email or text

    Wow! She's a beauty!

As for a gas tank, have you checked with DVAP? (Desert Valley Auto Parts) They've got a lot of old stuff......

Won't be cheap, though - they've got a TV show to produce.....

Hey Thanks for the idea. Love that show. My question is do any of the Ford Wagons of that era have similar gas tanks or are there other years surrounding the 65 in which the tanks would fit?

    WElcome, I've got a '63 COlony Park.
There is another member here, whose username I forget, that is selling a '65(http://www.stationwagonforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=33476)
He might be able to help.

I'm not positive, but I'm pretty sure any gas tank from a big Ford or Mercury wagon, circa '65-'68 would fit
    - Ford Country Squire
    - Ford Galaxie 500 Country Sedan
    - Ford Custom/Custom 500 Ranch Wagon
    - Mercury Colony Park

Salvage yards have 'excchange books' that tell them what fits and what doesn't. Go to your local Ford dismantler and have them check.

Got the same problem with my 65 galaxie wagon. I don't have the third row seats, just the storage area below. I did some measuring and am going to mount a 65 mustang tank in the floor under the car. The top of the mustang tank will be the new floor in the storage area. They hold 15 gallons and are reasonable new off of ebay.

I also have no gas tank in my 65 Country Squire. I think I am going to get an aluminum aftermarket fuel cell and install it where the old tank was. I found a ton of different sizes and configuration on ebay and I am confident once O do some more measuring I can find one that will work. I also thought about installing a tank in the storage compartment but I want to keep the locked storage space plus I think gas fumes inside the car and safety concerns would make it less than ideal.

    :Welcome: aboard Brandon.
Here's another source you may want to check out, and it's in your state.
They're a vintage wrecking yard. Good luck! Cool wagon BTW. ..nice clean example.(y)

Yes I wonder about the gas fume smell too, but the mustang tank is almost the perfect size for the well. In a early mustang 65-68 the top of the gas tank is the floor of the trunk. There is a lip that the tank sits on in the trunk and top of tank is flush with the floor and the belly of the tank hangs below the rear of the car between the rear frame rails. Check out a mustang site and you can see how it works. The other thing that I want to run on my 65 is a set of bellflower exhaust tips that run just under the rear quater panels, moving the tank from its side mount position will let me put the tips there on that side. My spare tire well is rusted badly too so I will cut area that hangs down on the right side and run a space saver spare where the stock spare tire was.
