We were told by more than a few people not to take on the project. I guess anything can be rebuilt if you want to do it badly enough! Do you have any pics of your '59 Safari?
anything can be restored the issue becomes are you putting more $$$ in then you can get out of it usually. if you are doing it for sentimental or personal reasons the cost is irrelevent yrs ago i did a body off frame like your doing and since then 3 rearends 2 trans, 3 motors, 3 a/c units,3 different steering setups, 2 different air ride controllers, but i've had my car for 15 yrs now been over mmost of the eastern seaboard from fla to ny, out as far as michigan and south along rt 66 into texas. can i recoup what i have put into my car? never but my daughter grew up in that car and we have been traveling in it since she was a baby,. as the commercial says "priceless"
Love this picture. And we did it in an ugly grey and silver Chevy van. Still had fun! We've had our 55 Chevy wagon since end of 80's but haven't changed near as much. Also it is not as nice or as fast but we still enjoy it. Lisa's wagon will be a new station wagon when finished and won't cost half what a new SUV or similar car costs.
thanks for the kind words and not everyone has to spend as much. i like to tinker but i surely could have left well enough alone yrs ago and enjoyed it the same , well maybe not the same as mine does not get driven by the little old lady on her way to church
Not a lot going on at the shop right now, but we do now have the fender skirts. John, whom we bought the car from, found them in his garage this afternoon (THANK YOU, John!). I was surprised to see that they were originally white. The car's original color was Crown Sapphire with a white roof. Does this mean that the skirts are not original to the car, or that the Kingswood could have been outfitted with white fender skirts, to match the roof? I've never seen any '59 Chevy with contrasting color fender skirts, though.
i believe the fender skirts were dealer installed and probably could be painted any color you want. i can't say i remember seeing them in contrasting colors either .
Lisa , I just joined the forum today and love your wagon . We too have a 59 Brookwood that we are starting a build on . I will start a build tread on it soon . Blue
Sweet! The color is even pretty! Looks like it has a lot less rust than ours does. Looking forward to seeing lots more pics.
Did you get car parts for your birthday? Whenever I have a new project or passion I always ask for related parts and accessories. Hope you had a good day.
Looks can be deceiving, that color is house paint . Has the usual rust but nothing to bad . Notice it has the California bumpers . Our plan is to make it her daily driver with all new undercarriage Fi motor with 6 speed trans . I'm tearing it apart now ( just fenders and hood motor and old trans) . I will be dragging the body and frame to my chassis guy next week . I usually do all that myself but am so busy with my COE ( 42 GMC COE bike hauler ON the HAMB) and since we are replacing her other car we are going to get a head start on it . Blue
