wagon/ pick up conversion

Has anyone seen or heard of a junk station wagon being turned into a pickup (El Camino type) by cutting off the back half of the top. I'm not planning on doing this, but thought, if done right, it could be cool.

there is a 59 chevy wagon which has had the entire roof cut off and was for sale down here a few yrs ago

That's good. As much as I like the looks of convertibles I dislike getting my hairs messed up and a sunburned head. Hurry up and get it finished so your wife can go for drive to test her new hip.

Seeing as how an El Camino is on a wagon platform I can see using a rear ended or side swipped wagon to make an El Wagon. You know, like a 59 that was hit in the side!

I would kill for a wago-pickup like this particular one. Wouldn't be so full of diamondplate though. I even like the wheels a little bit. But Buick rallys are the only way to go with an Estate.

 

I honestly don't get the whole car/truck mullet car thing. If I wanted a pick up, I would get a real one. I've seen many wagons modified into pickups over the years on the net. The one benefit of using a 4 door wagon is that you get a 4 door wagon/truck contraption versus the 2 door El Camino style that have almost no room in the passenger compartment.

 

I've always thought it would be pretty cool to have a wagon with a removable top like the old Broncos and Blazers.

I think if a wagon turned pick up conversion were done right it would be nice. After all I already drive a quadcab pickup and it would be similar.

That name is already taken. Studebaker, Nomad, and a few others had a great idea in the sliding roof wagons. GM just chickened out.

 

Chickened out i think sales dictated they were doomed great idea but no takers if they used the suburban instead of the envoy results may have been different imho.

 

I think the four door wagon/truck idea could be cool depending on the platform and how it was done.

This isn't really a "new" idea. We have a 1963 Ford Ranchero which is actually a two door wagon that had the rear half of the roof chooped off at the factory. Then there is the Subaru BaJa' which is an Outback with the rear roof chopped off.

I always used to think the same thing until I got involved with the Ranchero. It is unique and different which is why I like it. At the time FORD didn't offer a small truck like the Ranger, so this was their "little" truck. I think there is actually more room in the bed of the 63 Ranchero than there is in the bed of my 87 Ranger.

I have a "Real" truck which is a 96 FORD crew cab with an 8' box. It does what I need it to do and a smaller truck wouldn't cut it. The Subaru BaJa to me is silly, but so is the FORD Explorer Sport-Trac etc, etc, etc. I think it all comes down to what a person wants and how they plan to use it.

 

Someone made a kit to turn a Pinto into a truck.
