Man...the more I look at this wagon the more I like it (at least from what I can see). I was going to have LargeBarge check it out carefully for me but I have a problem. The auction ends, I believe, on the 4th. The guy wants $500 by PayPal in 48 hours and the rest in 3 days. Well, the first problem is that I never give front money even if I win it. I want the option of walking away from a car and only losing the money for the trip. I don't care if the guy bad raps me all over Ebay...if he lied about the car, isn't as described and has significant problems, I'm walking and he deserves nothing. I tell the seller this upfront and ask if he prefer that I not bid on his car. But I also tell him that, if I win it, I will email him a copy of my paid airline ticket and come for the car at the earliest airline convenience and try to make it within his final payment deadline. I think this is fair. BUT...this isn't my BIGGEST problem. I'm going to NYC on the 8th to look at the Roady. That will preclude any chance of my getting to this car in a timely manner. I suppose I could try to explain all this upfront to the Dodge seller but I think he will most likely nix my plan to bid. I think he may want a lot more than I'm willing to pay for it anyway, but, if not, I sure would like to snare it. He would probably agree to hold it if I paid the $500 upfront fee but I'm unwilling to ever send money sight unseen. Damn....life is full of problems.

That IS a good lookin' wagon. As interiours of the time went, that looks fairly par for the course.Even my 68 Colony Park came with a vinyl covered bench seat up front. And that was a luxo-wagon!Recently saw a magazine article claiming a 68 Colony Park as a "slow car".Also on the list were cars like Fiat 500's that topped off at 57 mph.My complaints with that claim are;(1)While I didn't get to own and drive them at the same time,I'm pretty sure my 68 with a 390 was quicker AND faster than my 86 with a 5.0.(2)I don't understand this "need", among some people out there,to have to have all vehicles handle like sportscars.Wagons aren't supposed to be sportscars! AMG's,BMW's and Audi's aside, wagons are supposed to be big old barges for carrying lots of people and/or stuff. And you don't see barges at those jet-boat races.(3)That said,I had my 68 keeping up with a 307 Camaro, about a week before The Newport Incident. We'd gotten up to 115 mph, just past a quarter mile. Then had to get down to less than 25,for a sharp left turn,in less than a quarter mile...I consider that magazine article "typical" of the "anti-wagon" press, biased and ill-informed.A Dodge or Pontiac wagon with the proper performance suspension of the era could easily be fast and great handling...And,yes, it DID bother me some, that a 68 Colony Park had been used as the example of the slow old stationwagon.

Trust your gut. I am a boring buyer, and when I sell, I want our customers to be my best critics. We're planning to make birdhouses and bathouses.

I go shopping with a list, whether its cars or grocs or reno materials. When it comes to flying, I look for the fastest, shortest trip (which means avoiding any Canadian stops). Price is secondary in flights. Safe and on time matters more.

The NY 1959 wagon is a collectible. The 1968 is a great looking car too, but you'll drop some serious money into bringing it up to snuff and doesn't have the same bling factor.

No fees... it would just be one wagon lover doing another wagon lover a favor. Anyway, I know you may have other plans now, BUT.. chances are good that the wagon wont sell on ebay..and will be reposted next week again.. keep an eye on it. I never send money either before I physically see the car.. I bought my car on Ebay and drove to see it before I parted with any money.. its the safest way to go.

Hey Normy...I'm going to NY to look at the '94 ROADY! Not the '59 DODGE. I WISH it was the Dodge but the guy wants $14,100 FIRM. Too much.

I shouldn't have taken that Speed-reading course. It was measured by testing what you comprehended at 800 words per minute. Fat lot of good it did me.

You gotta admit the '59 was pretty, but who wants to deal with an Anal-ist.

The Roadie will get a lot of TLC in your hands. That's your class of car. If it was a toss-up with a 1975 New Yorker T&C, I'd be in a conflict, too.

If the T&C was at all decent there would be no conflict!

That's what I mean, same classy wagons. Get the chariot you're accustomed to. I got a good hunch about the NY roadie. About the only thing I'd do, given the body and mechanics are sound, is new door seals. Buy them to replace them, when you start having to slam the doors shut.

I'm gonna do mine this year. The donor car's weren't as cooked as mine (Mexican sun, et al), but they're due.
