Sure is, I think it might be a '77 model though?? Brandon, vetteman61, knows all about these as he's got one, he can maybe shed some light on this one's model year?
It's a 1979 model as listed. 1977-79 were very similar but with minor variations to distinguish them. The 1979 model had a unique grille pattern and the segmented front side marker lights, which was a 1979 exclusive design cue.
I'll go with the subtle grill differences but all Caprices had the full size side marker lights from 77 up (it was not unique for the 1979 year), the lower scale Impalas did not. 79 Impala below. 77 Caprice... 77 Impala In 1980 the cool bent glass became more a formal roof design.....
What I meant was that 1979 was the only year for the 1977-79 generation Caprice when the front side marker light had two horizontal markings on the amber lens like shown in this side view. 1977-78 Caprices didn't have that.
Hello everyone, With all the different options available it is difficult to tell the different between years because the differences are subtle. The main differences are that 77 and 78 Caprices had both headlights encased together. !979 Caprices had a divider bar between the high and low beams. The grill on a 77 is very, very similar to the 78, but the 78 has a more "eggcrate" appearance. The 78-79 difference is more noticeable with the 79 having a stronger vertical bar appearance, somewhat closer to the 77 grill. On the taillights the 77 Caprice had 3 lenses per side but they were all together as one piece. The 78 caprice had 3 lenses, with raised horizontal rectangles on each lens, and were flush with the body of the car and each lens was separated by a small chrome divider. The 1979 Caprice had 3 lens per side but each was inset and had its own divider and slight overhang at the top. Also, the hubcaps on the car in the ad are '79 hubcaps, which of course could have been changed. The impalas had their own styling differences though they, too, were different. Some, as mentioned, were the marker lights sitting independent inside the plastic/fiberglass corner pieces of the body and typically the Impalas had chevy emblems centered in the grill and there was some differences in taillights such as a reverse light occupying the center lens of of total 6 lenses on the back. Impalas were the cheaper option in these years so you would typically find things absent. For example, The Caprices in 78 (and maybe 77, I can't remember) had little caprice emblems which flipped up for access, revealing the trunk latch. 79 Caprices did not have this, nor did any year of the Impala to my memory. To my knowledge all powertrain options were the same.
My ma's '77 CC sedan did not have the cover over the trunk lock. Hers was blue vinyl over white like the in ad, beautiful car. I think what had me questioning the yr of this one was the emblem on side panel under window, I thought those were a '77 only thing maybe. I'm no expert though.
This 1978 Caprice Landau coupe has been for sale for awhile in Georgia and I'm surprised it has not sold. It is loaded up and has the 350 V8. Good color, also. http://atlanta.craigslist.org/atl/cto/4297294563.html
No it still is a 4 door sedan, these were made for the Canadian market and due to our extra snow standards had the triple duty extra heavy duty frame times 3 with the class 19.4 tow package and got 40PMG up snow banks both ways compared to the US models..... although lack of rear bumper it may just be the base model with the class 17.1 tow package but if you put a dual exhaust on it you would get 55 MPG
