When I was a kid in shorts, we listened to Radio Theater. Ain't nothing like watching War of the Worlds in your sweet little imagination! I lucked out the other day and found a VHS with the original Movie version, then I bought the $5 version with Tom Cruise. The radio version is better!

But, I got to wondering what the movie industry and actors are doing to step into the shoes of those that are disappearing/dying? Jack Nicholson has retired because his memory is fading. Sean Connery is doing less. Morgan Freeman is cutting back. Clint is backing off, etc. The actresses of any calibre are doing fewer.

The only fun ones that I picked up lately are The Expendables and The Expendables 2. Makes you figure that after all the abuse these guys put their bodies through for so many decades, that any 60 Plus guy could get in shape. Cars and renovations help. I'm looking forward to number 3. Seems they plan on using it to train some rookie action guys. The last 2 Die Hard flicks are ok too, but too many special effects.

But the De Niros, Nicholsons, Meryl Streeps, Clints. Who's up and coming?:hmmm:

Denzel Washington, Tom Hanks and Jeff Bridges are always a pleasure to watch although their role is a bit stereotype, same as with Bruce Willis and Jason Statham.
For new male actors I would say Leonardo diCaprio, Ryan Gosling, Michael Fassbender and Benedict Cumberbatch and actresses Emma Stone, Nathalie Portman, Scarlett Johansson and Ellen Page show very good performances.

I like DiCaprio, Hanks, Denzel, Nathalie, Emma and Jason. I'll keep an eye out for Scarlett and Ellen and Fassbender, as well as Cumberbatch, though.

I found another VHS that really is good. Weird to see Yul Bryner in an Ian Fleming (Bond author) movie. The title is The Opium Connection. Great actors, good story, good direction. It goes by many titles, depending on the country. It was bigger in Europe and the Arab countries. In the UK it was "Danger Grows Wild". Here's the list of titles by country:

I must come from the same age, Tedy. For actresses, I wonder who will have the talent and class to be the next Dame Judi Dench or Dame Maggie Smith.

I'm more dated than you are and I'm lost! When they started adding Technicolor and sound movies just weren't as interesting. :rofl2:

I would like to see Stormin Normin in shorts! I remember listening to the Lone Ranger and The Shadow Knows.

Let's not forget Amos n' Andy, My Little Margie, Red Skelton, Fibber McGee and Molly, Inner Sanctum, The Creaking Door.....magic decoder rings, Ovaltine.

When we got our first TV, I got the old mahogany console radio. I took the guts out of it, put a piece of plywood over the speaker hole and made a boat out of it. It provided a whole summer's entertainment running the river and paddling to those elusive fishing holes that weren't accessible from the bank. I used to haul it around tied to my wagon (my first) which was tied to my bike with a length of rope.

I loved those shows. I can still hear that creaking door for the Intersactum.
You really are an Old Fox! :bouncy:
My first wagon was a Radio Flier. Ran good down hill.

I think there are some fine actors coming along to replace the classics. You've got River Phoenix, Paul Walker, Sylvester Stallone's son Serge and Heath Ledger.
    Oh wait.

I loved going to the drive-in movies.

At least I think they played movies ?

Me too Cat. We'd always stuff 4 or 5 of us in the trunk and "sneak in". Whoever was driving would pull over after getting the tickets and we'd all run out of the trunk into the car. We thought we had gotten away with a huge heist! One of my friends moms had a Buick with the remote trunk release; that made our crime considerably easier to pull off.
