Found these in the yards here - first up is a 66 Merc Monterey S-55 that has a date with the shredder. I have a 67 S-55 and could've used some of the spare bits. No 428 or C-6 though... Second we have a 67 Grand Prix ragtop from the u-pullit - one of only like 5800 - one year only....both shameful to be scrapped
Both of those cars look to be very much worth saving. That Pontiac Grand Prix especially. It seems to be pretty solid, and mechanically there is nothing too outrageous about them, either. Stunningly beautiful cars! What a shame to see them doomed to be shredded!
The issue is that the people who scrapped it want too much money for it. Then they get to a point where they will take almost nothing for it. But by then the last person who REALLY wanted it has moved on. Vicious cycle and all. I wanted a classic awhile back. My total budget was 2K. Guy wanted 5K for rust. We went back and forth for awhile. I bought another car. I saw the car get scrapped cause no one would pay 5K. BUT his wife made sure that the car went away. Sux too, cuz it was a 4 speed Trans Am. Oh well... Not to mention that I signed an affidavit with my wife.. I can have as many cars as I want, but only two at a time at our current address. So I would buy more of them, but am limited...
I signed an affidavit with my wife. I've only signed one piece of paper with my wife and I'm still suffering. :banghead3: It should be illegal to scrap this convertible.
Correct Yes, 1967 Tempest, you are totally correct. The Merc was on our local Craigslist for 2500.00 - four days later, its at the scrapper. The guy prolly got 500 bucks for the 428/C-6, which he said ran, and then got about 250 bucks for the body, when he could have sold it for 1500 or so. I've seen it alot now that Craigslist is the new medium for local cars.
Well, in all fairness, if he got $750 total after advertising it for $2500...... he got off like a bandit, that car is done other than some (?) parts!
i seen a '67 chevy impala 4-door sedan ran in the local demolition derby last night. kinda makes ya think.
hey, hey, hey, what? Let's see if I can keep this as clean as possible; god damn mother ****ing bull**** brained bastard bitch *******s with their heads shoved up their worthless sacks of chicken **** asses ! That's who junks cars like these.
Its quite depressing that people do, and I have no clue why. Believe it or not, my dad was going to junk my wagon after parting it out when the prior motor decided to seize up. Why, I still have no clue
In 1969, one of our neighbours had the transmission fail in her car, so she decided to scrap it. I TOLD her it would be worth money some day, but who listens to an 8 year old? Turns out, I was right. She scrapped a MINT, perfect, 15,000 mile 57 Chevy Bel Air Sport Coupe, 283, power glide, power steering and power brakes. Still had the factory whitewalls on it at that point. It would have cost about $200 to rebuild the transmission, but that was too much to sink into a 12 year old car!
Who knows, hopefully that mint '57 Chevy sport coupe is residing in some collector's garage as we speak! We can hope. And you have to deal with the faulty mentality that OLD is BAD, NEW is GOOD, from toasters to houses, and all in between.
