Not very many of those Stratocruisers were made, either, since the jet engine took over the air lines pretty soon after. There were a few different turbo-prop liners that were orphaned very quickly because of that, and they are among the most graceful of all the old liners.

I believe it is an Austin Healy. If I remember correctly, it belonged to the wife of the photographer.

Bunker Hill Redevelopment Project, that's what the city officials called it.
I call it Eminent domain, where the people with the power take private property for public use. However, it can be legislatively delegated by the state to municipalities, government subdivisions, or even private persons or corporations when they are authorized to exercise functions of public character. The property may be taken either for government use or by delegation to third parties who will devote it to public or civic use or, in some cases, economic development. The most common uses of property taken by eminent domain are for government buildings and other facilities, public utilities, highways, and railroads; however, it may also be taken for reasons of public safety. Some jurisdictions require that the condemning party offer to purchase the property before resorting to the use of eminent domain. Like what the city of Los Angeles did to the good hard working folks of Chavez Ravine when they wanted to build Dodger Stadium.
Excuse me for digressing, This was the LUX Theater at 827 W. 3rd St. Los Angeles, CA 90071, it used to be the Rose Theater and the Rex Theater, it had a seating capacity for 500, alas it was demolished as part of the Bunker Hill Redevelopment Project. It's now part of the Bunker Hill Towers area.

    Pink Lady

The painting was located above a tunnel on Malibu Canyon
Road, about four miles north of Malibu. The rock above the
tunnel had been covered with graffiti, which Seemayer felt
was "an eyesore". Working at night, she began removing the
graffiti in January 1966, using ropes to suspend herself in
front of the rock. When the rock was clean, she created the
60 foot painting on the night of Friday, October 28, 1966.
By November 1, the painting had begun to attract local news
    coverage.
It was dubbed the "Pink Lady" by the media, due to the pink
paint used for the skin. Los Angeles County road officials,
concerned about traffic problems the painting might cause,
attempted to remove it with high-pressure spray from fire
hoses, and then with paint stripper. However, Seemayer
had used heavy-duty house paint for her creation, and
both methods failed to remove it.
When she realized that her work was in danger, Seemayer
publicly admitted to creating the Pink Lady, and sought a
court injunction. This failed, however, and on November 3
a road crew covered the painting with brown paint.
Seemayer sued the county for $1,000,000 for the destruction
of her work, and the county counter-sued for $28,000 in
removal costs. Since the painting was on private property,
both cases were dismissed by the court. For some time
after the painting was removed, Seemayer received hate
mail and phone calls from people who felt the work was
obscene, including threats of violence against her and her
children. She also received a few offers from art galleries
to show her work. The image ended up being used as a wine
    label.

Very interesting. As much as I love looking at the occasional nude I can see where this was very dangerous.

Yes driving one's wagon into a hole beneath a naked lady might be dangerous, especially at night. :)

Ernie Kovacs was killed in an automobile accident. A tragic end for a comedy legend.

Great Picture with 2 of my favorate Classic Piston powered Air Liners in it.
Agreed that not to many Strato Cruisers were Built, they were really only economicly viable on long overseas flights. The issue was the four 28 cylinder Pratt & Witney 4360 CI Engines!!!!! Having worked for Northwest Airlines (one of the few operators of the Strato Cruiser) we used to say that you needed to sell 110% of the seats to break even on the Flight!!!! But they were great favorates of both the Flight Crews and Passengers, they even had a lower deck lounge for passengers to enjoy on the flights from Seattle to Japan.
They were the only Plane that could make the flight non stop in the early 50's. But the arrival of both the Late Model Constillations, and the Douglas DC7C that both had an almost equal range and payload, and more fuel thrifty18 cylinder Wright 3350 CU Turbo Compound Engines. Those were the 1st 2 nails in the Strato Cruiser's coffin. Then Boeing itself came out with the all Jet 707, and the Strato Cruisers were done.
But seeing that they were really conversions of the USAF B-50 Bombers (sort of a super version of the WWII B-29) economy was not really the highest priority on the designers list.

Look at the lower deck Lounge in this pic below!!!!

Great Picture, the only thing that could have made it better for me would be if it showed a NWA Cruiser in place of a PAA one. But great shot thanks for posting it!!!!!!
