After some negotiations with this seller: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1976...2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&forcev4exp=true I decided to pull the trigger. I probably wouldn't have done it, if this thing didn't have a 460. Hope to have things ironed out early this week, and on a transport truck headed to Georgia within a couple of weeks. I haven't checked out the woodgrain section of this forum yet, but I'll be looking for suggestions on how to restore it without replacing. Other than fading, it's in pretty good shape with minimal cracking. I've seen "Back to Black" used with nice results. Also gotta decide what to do about wheels. I like the Magnum 500s. But I just purchased Torque Thrust style wheels for my LTD II. So I'm torn. And the LTD II will up for sale, if anyone's interested!
So with seven bids it went to : $2,475.00 ... If you don't mind my asking,, what did you give for it..... Also, what size are the mag-500's on it.... ? (rims, not the tires)
WINNER, WINNER, CHICKEN DINNER.......... Great acquisition for you (and us forum members)! Congrats! (and definitely KEEP those Magnum 500's) Marshall
Congratulations on the Montego. I'm so glad someone here bought the old girl and is going to look after her. You have a really beautiful wagon there, and certainly one that is uncommon. If you weren't so far away I would be after the LTD in a heartbeat! I love those wagons.
Thanks. Can't wait for it to get here. His reserve was $4500. I got it for $4k. The Magnum 500s are 15x8. I like them a lot. But, I hate it that I just spent $$$ on those new wheels. I won't get my money back out of them.
Without the Torque Thrust wheels, I'm thinking $3,000. Interior is in incredible shape. Just rebuilt the front suspension. Rides very smooth. Has a 351M-2V. Rust-free, except a couple of small spots up under the rear side windows. Send me a PM if you're interested. I noticed your in Georgia.
What Marshall said .............and an extra vote for keeping those Magnum's, and why not keep those mags as well and switch back and forth depending on the mood at the time? Having multiple wheel changes does quite a bit for the cars appearance. Some folks tend to do this by having different cars, others just the wheels
I missed this some how.......CONGRATS and FREEKEN YEAH! I'm.....I'm kinda jealous, I really fell for that wagon...... As for your wood if you want to bring it back, and if the pics are true I believe you can do wonders........ And if I could find the other post this one is referring too//// http://www.stationwagonforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=9444 Also, I experimented as my wood was now beyond the above preservation and was totally impressed on how it not only brought back colour but gave it the best water beading after a wash.... http://www.stationwagonforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=26064 Dissclaimer... Mine is a low buck for now cure, I do not know how it will/would hold up as a daily driver once rain season starts. Car is barned till next summer so I don't know how it really will hold up in weather
Looks like a fabulous Merc. For some reason it looks like it ought to have a Cleveland though. Maybe its the mags. mike
Yeah, me too. Still can't believe I'm buying a car from the other side of the country. But, I fell in love with it. My wife has already named it. Butter Cup Money's been paid. Pink slip is on its way. Just waiting on the Transport company to pick it up. It may be too late to ask. Never had a car shipped to me. I've just been figuring it out as I go. But, if anyone has suggestions on anything we need to do, in order to prep for transport, let me know. Or, any other hints about how this should work.
