I have been working on a project since February. It is finally done. I made plugs, molds, and then the parts for my 91 OCC. The project is fender skirts with the profile of the cladding. I took a couple of preliminary pictures with my cell phone. The pics are not of the usual quality I like, but you can see the results. I think the car looks longer and lower. I will make copies available on a prepaid made to order basis for $279 shipped for the first 10 orders. I supply the fiberglass parts, and instructions on how to install them. You will have to paint the part to match, and supply mounting hardware.
They are held on by 3 stationary pins, and one retractable (sliding closet door) pin. Pull the retractable pin, and it comes down and out. It takes about 30 seconds to remove one.
Guaranteed order from me if a 91-96 B-body wagon shows up in my driveway. I was wondering why no one made such a thing, well now they do!!!
That looks great...I think. Not being a smart @zz but you have to post some way better pics with the sun hitting it, and some close ups. IMO those skirts look really sharp on the wagon
Pretty cool. I'm going to have to get me a paper route so I can save up for a set. If the car had lake pipes it would look right at home on the salt flats. If it's a 91-96 Roadmaster or Caprice wagon they've been making fiberglass skirts for those cars for years. Try Evilbay or check them out on the fender skirt depot site. http://www.stationwagonforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=21025 Fred's versions are unique because they match the 91-92 Custom Cruiser's molded side cladding.
I know from having several 70-72 Monte Carlos with formal rear wheel openings that such wheel wells have a limit to the size of tire that can be stuffed in due to the low hanging fender lip. Adding skirts on a Monte limit this further. How do these affect tire size? Allows same size as the maximum that can be installed without the skirts, or require a narrower tire than the max size without? Neat project. Tom
Most wagons do not look good with skirts. But this one seems to pull it off very well! Nice "scratchbuilding"!
I am running 255/60/15s on stock steelies, and have plenty of clearance. The closest point is the bottom edge, and it is about 3/4 inch from the tire sidewall. The OCC wheel opening is about 3/8-1/2 inch smaller than the Caprice or Roadmaster. These would fall out of the other cars. I took it to a car show, and nobody noticed the skirts...I must have done a good job, and it looks like it came with them...or nobody cares. When I get the 500 HP engine I want, I will be headed to Bonneville. BTW the headers for lakes pipes would not fit between the ground and the frame, but they would look impressive, if I could do it. I did modify the trans crossmember, and have true duals that dump just in front of the rear axle.
Fred that's a great looking wagon and the skirts make it look longer, lower, and faster. Love the color! I don't care who says differently everything looks better with skirts. Including pretty women! Even they look longer and faster.
