Is a Pacer a wagon?

These folks did a great job on this car, although I'm biased because he put a 4.0 straight six jeep engine in it.

I've read a long article somewhere on that girl with the Purple Pacer. Nice job. Very talented and dedicated she is. Her car's a Pacer hatch BTW.

My mom bought a Pacerat new, probably because she knew I wouldn't want to borrow it because I wouldn't have been caught dead driving it.

We've got a member (Cadipacer), who just happens to have stuffed a 500ci Caddy V8 in one........unfortunately, no pictures.

 

The 258 ci (4.6L) is the stock AMC engine. That 4.0 is quite the engine, for certain.

I read somewhere that the passenger doors on them bad-boys are longer than the driver's door, to accomodate passengers. My friend wants to build one as a Wayne's world tribute. (hatchback of course, not wagon)

The right side door is 10cm longer (wider) than the left side door, to make it easier for rear seat passengers to enter / exit.
(In the photos in my first post, notice the door gap between the door and the quarter is pretty much halfway between the 2 glass surfaces on the blue/woody wagon (left side). On the red hatchback, the door gap is almost next to the quarter glass (right side)

Did you also know that the Pacer was originally scheduled to get a WANKEL engine? The car, originally on the drawing board in the early 70's was to get an AMC-built wankel licensed from NSU, holder of the patent. Their wankel wasn't going to be ready on time when the car was scheduled to be released, so AMC went to General Motors, who were also developing their own wankel. GM was willing to sell the engines to AMC, but then later cancelled their own program, leaving AMC in the learch. They then had to shoehorn their 6-cyl into the car. Later, it also got the 304 V-8.

 

I like the VW New Beetle Lime Green, but it only works on those. A non-bubble car just needs a formal colour, IMHO. Your Pacer colour is probably a good choice though.

I like the main stream cars. Chevelles, Mustangs, Camaros, Challengers, etc,etc.
What I really love is the "misfits". I love things that very few people have or want. I would much rather admire a nice original or restored pacer,gremlin,corvair,falcon,wagon,whatever...
there is an old saying by someone smarter than myself (My Mom)...It goes.. "I wouldnt trade the experience and wisdom gained by growing old for youth anyday" Many will disagree but the more i age the more I realize that the old lady knows what she is talking about. Sorry for the rant but what I should have said from the begining is that the more I age the more I appreciate being unique and things that are unique! Is a pacer a wagon? Nah... A pacer is a pacer as far as I am concerned. Its special all by itself. And that isnt a bad thing.
