Since there are so many pet people here, and things are a tad slow during vacation season, lets talk about your pets names.
I once had a black and white southern pointer I named Shadow, because he followed me around like a...shadow.
The love of my life, Tracy, the Irish setter was named by her former owners after the red haired actor Spencer Tracy.
Momma named her golden Cabot, maybe because he's the color of cheddar cheese?
Little dog was named by grandma, her name is Sweet Pea after a local girl, but I call her Shotgun when the neighbors are listening.
I once had a pet goose I called Norma Jean, because she was platinum white, a bit confused, and pretty like Marlyn Munroe.
The new plott hound is named Bodhi, from the Bhuddist/Sanscrit for a soul who has suffered and found enlightenment.
We're still working on the enlightenment part.
Someone out there has a plott hound named Harry Plotter.
    Now that's a good one! :1st:

I've named a Cat... Russian, because he was a Russian Blue, but called his Rush for short.

All our dogs came with names and we left them, well except for one....

After Deb's Apollo the King Shepherd passed we got Kirby out of a bad place. He chose me when we got there, just glued himself to me and I started talking to him with his name. The lady asked if we would keep his name and I said yes, 'I don't believe in changing a animals name after they get used to it" So now we are driving home with "Kirby" and Deb reminded me of what the hag said and asked if I noticed the look on her face when I answered. I said yes. Deb told me the dogs mane was " Furby", not "Kirby". Well "Furby" just wasn't gona happen! At least the "irby" part was close enough that he never got confused.

A week later the old owner (The drunk man of the house) phoned me all juiced up in the middle of the week and wanted to see his dog now! Told him to FO and call me if he is ever sober.......never heard back from him:rofl2:

Kirby was sober for the rest of his life with us......

Well, since you taught him to drive, sober is good.
    You ARE the dog man!

I have an old friend who's 4'8 mother had a big white German Shepherd named Jean in her later years.
    Norma Jean? I dunno.
She always placed herself between anyone who wasn't family and her little old mom.
Unless mom came and touched you, you were considered an intruder and not to be trusted.
    Even then, she watched......
They may well be the most intelligent dogs on the planet.
I share a house with a couple of dumb lazy hunting dogs who don't hunt.
But I love their big hearts, floppy ears and whip antenna tails.

And you wrote-----once had a pet goose I called Norma Jean, because she was platinum white, a bit confused, and pretty like Marlyn Munroe.

I've dreamnt casually about Marilyn Monroe also. That doesn't make me bad!

We once had a dog with no legs. Didn't give him a name because he wouldn't come if you called him anyway. Used to have to take him for a drag twice a day.

Alex, the blind diabetic dog with the heart condition, was my Mom's Yorkie, that came to me when my Mom went into a nursing home. Alex's first 10 years were healthy, but it was his last four years that he developed all his ailments. Alex was a great little dog that had more personality than any other dog I ever met. He loved everyone he ever met weather they had two legs or four. If he really liked a new visitor at first sight, he would bring them his leash so they could take hime for a walk.

Before I had Alex, there was Tigger, the 110lb Golden Retriever with epilepsy. Tigger was an old house mate's dog that he left behind when he moved to his girlfriend's apartment where pets weren't allowed. I kept Tigger for a year or more after his owner left, but eventually had to give him up. He loved people, but viewed anything with four legs (including other dogs) as prey. Tigger's original owner eventually found him a new home. Tigger's favorite game was "find it". I would take Tigger's favorite toy, tell him to "stay", then hide the toy somewhere in the house. I would then tell him to "find it". He would search the house top to bottom then bring the toy back to do it all again.

Most of my friends have car names for their pets. Theres a Boxer named Bentley, a cat named Cuda, a dog named Dakota, a cat named Hemi, and a Westie named R.T.

This is Hurley shortly after I got him.

Effie the day I got her. She was on her way to the pound. 5 minutes either way, and I would have missed out on her. Guess she was meant to be.

Bailey. Yes, there is such a thing as a calm Jack Russell. You just have to tire them out completely first.

My old boy, Bailley. He was the sweetest, most gentle beagle I have ever known. Another lost soul who needed love in his life. Seems to be how I end up with ALL my dogs!
