Oldsmobile! I learned to drive on a Vista Cruiser and even took my road test on it. Passed the test the first time. I owned an 87 Custom Cruiser for 11 yrs. Now I own a 94 Buick Roadmaster EstateWagon. Gotta love those wagons!
That is really nice, makes me even more anxious to get my '71 finished. The Vista Cruisers are some of the prettiest wagons ever made IMO.
cruisers Next to Colony Parks, and mid-fifties Nomads,Vista Crusers have been my favorites as well.Didn't find it funny at all, when the first Vacation movie squished a perfectly good one just to make a joke.
That car wasn't crushed, unless it changed from a '70 into a '72 after they mushed it. The crushed car is a '71 or '72, it has a '72 grill and '71 headlight surrounds, and how did a Poncho rally wheel with a whitewall get on the front? Check out the Le Baron wagon behind it. Every cloud has a silver lining, if they didn't crush it in the movie we never would have gotten to see the Family Truckster. the goods on them Well,it's good that they didn't squish the one that was driving around, earlier in the movie, but they DID squish one!..Hopefully they just sent a camera crew down to a junkyard and filmed one that was allready slated to be squished:confused:...I'm somewhat familiar with Hollywood's treatment of nice old cars.I watched a documentary of how you see Thelma and Louise drive around in one T-Bird and the one at the end is a matching T-Bird with an inline six in it.So it really is a T-Bird we see flying into oblivion,at the end of the movie, not a mock up.
squishin' My wife and I noticed the disturbing trend to use stationwagons in demolition derbies,a long while back, and really didn't like it much...Have seen several documentaries on Hollywoods treatment of cars(props). Many of which are cars they rent, especially when they're rare.Others are cars Hollywood considers junkers, which means they're cars we'd save up a while to get and be happy with them...And,then,there's the difference between sensibilties. My wife and I have allready agreed with each other on this;our 86 Colony Park breaks down and we can't get it fixed right away---it goes in the garage or under a tarp until we can get it fixed..In Hollywood, when they're done with the car,it's a cast-off.:banghead3: Of the two Mustangs used to film Bullitt, the location of only one is publicly known, the other is---apparently---lost and gone forever
To BlueVista Yes,we wouldn't have gotten to see the Family Truckster. It irked me a little that they used a Ford Country Squire and put it on steroids. When the movie came out,the Family Truckster was meant to make fun of cars like the VistaCruiser that gets crushed.Little did they know then, that Detroit would come up with SUV's(pick-up truck stationwagons, and therefore, true Family Trucksters)and that their commentary was actually ahead of it's time. Was a bit surprised, when they became way popular, that no SUV's came with woodie siding(I remember it on Suburbans and Travel-Alls.And,of course,Wagoneers). On a trivial tangent,When BMW brought three of their then SUV prototypes to America for road testing here---they put woodie siding on them to make people think they were going to be Ford's.I've seen both pics and footage.Maybe it's been our auto market's move towards foreign cars that has lead us away from the All-American woodie.Although,I also remember a few Japanese wagons with woodie,too...Dang Frenchies!
Well, now you can get a PT Loser with your woodgrain, and the freshest option is the HHR. I don't know if they make a woodie Magnum, but it would be great!
PT Loser? My wife works with a guy with one I have to put up with at cruise-ins, they have a big club and everything here. The thing has fake bullet holes and some stick-on pin striping, real cool. Anything you can order online and bolt or stick on, just like the rice burners. I still can't figure out the HHR, all I see is milk truck with it and the PT Loser.
Yeah, I have a lotta decals, but otherwise my Wagon's pretty stock. But that's only because I don't wanna invest in this one, because I'm looking for a Vista Cruiser, or a Clamshell, or a 66, or 68 caprice to do, or even possibly a 55-60 Chevy wagon. The Caprice Estate was bought more for a winter car/parts runner. But I still baby her. But I digress. My English Teacher drives a PT Loser with a woodgrain kit, and he compares it to my car. I told him there is no comparison there.
there so far off its not even funny! in my oppinion the Chevy HHR's are weird. my friends have one. it handles like a shopping cart, has a really small windsheild. its also full of blind spots. what i can see the only things its got to it is good acceleration....
