veryy touchy subject ! this is a touchy subject, because your always gonna be stepping on somebodys toes like for the aztek, my moms in love with that car ! she wants one like no other, she also likes the buick rendezvous aztek rendezvous as for the pacer goes, i love them !! and the gremlins !! and surprisingly i kinda like the the suburu baja !! i like the suburu brat a little more though. pacer gremlin baja brat now something is ugly is one of the most popular cars out there, the honda civic, every style they ever made is and was ugly IMHO thats just my
I think every era has its ugly cars. The Pacer was the king of ugly in the 70's. More recently, I remember riding with friends the first time we saw the Aztek, and we all started laughing. A few years later the Azrek had already been discontinued ane we were driving past the same dealer and noticed rows and rows of unsold Azteks and we were laughing all over again, joking that they were probably the same ones we had seen years earlier. I think the Cube pretty much gets my vote for the most recent ugly car. They have been on the road a while now, and yet I still look at every one I see expecting to see a Dr Seuss character behind the wheel. But I think that it was Subaru in the late 60's that was likly the only car manufacturer to describe their own cars as "cheap and ugly". http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qzvmPpXTAqM http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zLPp-NFInXw
Pushing this one up with a pic of the daily beater... And its no more of a beuty from behind :-( But Liten is comfy back there, with a little help from a electric blanket ans insulation for looong trips..
Hahaha, nice thread. I kinda like ugly cars. My friend Laird (the dork in the pic below) owns a AMC Pacer wagon, and also bought my white 1981 Citation X-11. They site side-by-side in his garage. Both have been called ugly. I don't care. They both are fun to drive and get attention...everyone knows what the Pacer is...NOBODY knows what the X-11 is. Laird put a Maserati sticker on the back of the X-11 to confuse people more....you'd be surprised how many people thought it WAS a Maserati. Ahahaha!
Well, Mike - I think that 5-door Citation hatch you made was bitchin'.... (For those that don't know, you could only get the sporty X-11 model in coupe or 3-door hatch form from the factory...) Wifey and I were driving around yesterday in the Safari, happened to be following an Aztek. I said nothing. Wife says, "You know, those sure are ugly...." They say "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder." I guess some forms of 'ugly' are unanimous.
Haha, thats kind of you, thanks, but holy macarony, its so ugly that clocks stop ticking when i pass.. It runs a 1,7 no turbo diesel too 50 wild horses that will throw it to 60mph at almost a day But it runs cheap, and we can go 6 dogs and two people to any dogshow that we want in it..
I like the look of the DAF/Volvo from the mid 70's. I also like the looks of the Pacer, but not too fond of the pacer wagon. The gremlins were nice too. the nissan cube is butt ugly, the new van/pick up thing nissan is selling is ugly too. the kia soul is ugly too, even if I drive one, it's practical.... roomy and comfy for my 6'3" 290lbs frame
We used to call those duck cars when we lived in Germany. For as much hatred is directed at the Aztek I don't understand why the Nissan Juke gets a pass. I thought it was a joke when they released it.
All this talk of Azteks reminds me of a joke that was popular "back in the day"...when they were new What do you call 2 Azteks on a Pontiac dealer's lot? . . . . . . . . A lifetime supply! All in good fun, folks.
I carefully reviewed this thread and didn't see anything truly ugly until about page 5. 99% of the stuff on the first few pages is stunningly beautiful compared to the amorphous lumps of melted butter they try to pass of as automobiles these days. Even once respected coach builders elicit retches from deep in my inner being these days. mike
Now that makes it totally dysfunctional yet functional........ I'll bet you could haul more dogs in your Buick though
