You are taller than I thought! Good going on the lease. Do not forget to go to legal aide ( free lawyers) , Chicago housing, low income housing advocacy, and I will call on tuesday to give advice to you on others.
Congrats on the parade and knowing your legal rights with the landlord.

And thank you for staying here. I dont know how much it means to you, but I am proud of you.

Zoe and I both are 5'9"

I forgot to mention it but there is a website and an organization that is there just for circumstances like this. What is written on this website is LAW in the city of Chicago. Tenants-rights.org and the MTO. They provide free legal info and lawyers for free. Apparently if any landlord or company tries something sketchy you contact the MTO and tell the company or persons in question and they lay off. If not they get into big trouble, fines and investigations and so on.

    P.S. Thanks DocZ

Xav: Like Doc, I'm very proud of you two for the way you have pulled together and made things work. Keep on, and you will prevail! I don't know how the law there works, but here, as soon as a landlord accepts one payment from you, they are deemed to have accepted you as tenants. That has made for some interesting discussions with landlords who try nonsense like that! Stand your ground, and keep looking towards that horizon. You'll get there!

    Hugs.
    Michael.

Glad to hear you have a bit of time to get things together. I'm 5'9 also. I always felt awkware when I was in school, I was taller then the other girls and alot of the guys. However, I don't mind it at all now.
The parade sounds looks like it was alot of fun, how cool was that, getting ask to be on the float! (y)
Keep digging Keys, you will succeed.
    :)

Thanks Fannie! We got more good news. Zoe has a job interview tomorrow with an Eco-cigarette company. They sounded really interested and came across as if the interview was more of a formality and more like they just want her to start! Wish her luck! :yahoo:

MOST excellent! I am very thankful to hear of this. I will call to talk about matters on a few other things. I use eco-smokes. I think that they are a wonderful product!
Stand fast my friends, persist... one foot in front of another..and I promise you that you get what you need. Not always what you want, but what you need
    This I promise.

WOW just wow, I just read this whole thread....

Xavier, you are just experiencing some temporary hardship and minor set backs. From your other posts here on the forum and from what I've read in this thread you have put out more than your fair share of good karma. It will come back to you when you need it. AND IT WILL!

Most of us here have had our own share of hardship and set back. It's part of life and makes us stronger. In time you will look back at this point in time and smile.

That your friends got you to pack up and move to chicago on a promise that they can't or failed to come through for you, for what ever reason they may have, does suck. It hurts and stings right now, you got better and more important things to focus on at this time.

Know that you are dealing with a landlord that is trying to push the limits of the law and know full well that it's on your side not theirs. they will try to bully you so you will leave on your own. it's good that you got good advice on this and are aware of what they are trying to do.

As for finding work, it's hard out there. it's easy for some older guys to sit in their nice warm homes and spout out about how easy it was 25-50 years ago to find work. Times have changed the happy times of decades ago are gone. Jobs that only required a grade 12 education 30 years ago now require some form of post secoundary diploma.
Take whatever comes your way for now, knowing that it's just a stepping stone to the next better job.

On a side note it's a good thing that you don't have your dream wagon right now, a black long roof with side irons would really piss off the landlord... nor would it be the best ride to arrive at a job interview in...

    Good luck

    Thanks Ratmaster. :D

We found out FOR SURE that what the rental company is doing is illegal. By them accepting rent from us they LEGALLY ACCEPTED us as LEGAL tenants. This is the law. And we have lived here since June 25th and have been paying rent every month since. Our lease is legal and if wanted Tito do anything to us they would have to take us to court over a lease that ends in a little over five weeks.

Secondly, ZOE GOT THE JOB!!!!!!!!! Don't know what day she starts yet but we should find out tomorrow! :yahoo:
Now it's my turn. Thanks to the threats of home invasion from the rental company we are hesitant to leave our home unattended and I spent to cleaning and packing. But that's not to say that I'm not doing my part on the job hunt. I actually just finished applying at a cat shelter. The place sounds awesome!

I've noticed that too short people seem to be abit toucher then taller folks...not sure why...maybe because they can't reach stuff, or see over things and their feet dangle when they sit on the curb. :rofl2:
