Well, I am new here (obviously) and hope to make a few friends. I DO love station wagons and have had 2 in my life, but, I am on a bit of a weird quest. As you can tell by my moniker, I am one of those goofy zombie apocalypse nuts. I freely admit it. I am going to say this know that some of you are going to wince, yell, and brand me a heathen: I am doing research from which I am going to eventually take a wagon body and mount it to a truck frame and turn it into some post apocalyptic monstrosity. Its gonna be so FUN! I have built a few cars and have a life long experience in cars. SO, I will help out here how and where I can as 'payment' for my sins. Other than that I live in north Alabama, am married, drive a Charger, and have a fat snide black cat.
Welcome Doc. I live in southern middle Tennessee, about 40 miles north of Florence. I used to be one of those "correct" restoration kinka guys. But as I've matured, I've come to the conclusion that everyone ought to have their ride just like they want it and not worry about what anyone else thinks. Looking forward to see what you come up with.
Welcome, Doc! As I was reading your intro, some ideas popped into my head.. what wagon would make a good candidate for this? I was thinking that since a 'normal' full-sized American wagon already has a frame under it (you would just be replacing it with a different frame...), perhaps a slightly smaller wagon with unitized construction might fill the bill. I was thinking specifically about the GM A-body wagons from '84 - '90 (?) Chevy Celebrity, Pontiac 6000, Olds Ciera, Buick Century). They are relatively light, have pretty good room in the back (even a 'way-back' 3rd seat on some), and best of all - they're CHEAP. Only drawback I can think of is perhaps a cramped engine compartment, but hey, just keep trimming back those inner aprons till it fits. Here's what I'm talking about: Also snagged this off the net - nice touch! Marshall
You want a lifted 4x4 wagon? That is the dumbest thing I ever heard of. Here's my 87 AMC Eagle Wagon. I see you're in North Alabama. I work in the Huntsville area.
What about one of these, might save you a whole lot of work... http://www.stationwagonforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=18181 and stop drooling on your key board...
HMMM!!!!! The reason for the pickup truck underpinnings is so that I can have something tougher, punishment wish, have larger tires, and have storage for a fair amount bug-out stuff. I DO like your idea and I had not considered this particular style. I will investigate and I wish to thank you very much for your genius and insight!
