According to a website I saw (and we all know the internet cannot tell a lie) this was the last car John Wayne owned and it was custom made by GM. Brandon
I do - ugly. Even by late '60s/early '70's standards. Can you imagine Robert DeNiro, Al Pacino, or George Clooney riding around in a car with their name on it?
I believe they had that earlier Wayne wagon on display at the Imperial Palace Auto Museum in Vegas - I think that's where i saw it (could have been Harrah's in Reno?) Anyway - I always thought it was more of a publicity stunt. I mean it's not like John Wayne was 7 feet tall or something.... I guess the idea was that he could always wear his hat inside the wagon....... Wayne wasn't a 'cowboy' in real life. Heck - he got his start in Hollywood while attending USC and playing on the football team.
Yeah....the TV show WKRP In Cinsinati (Spelling..??/) tried that also, dropping Turkeys from a hellicopter.....Oh The Humanity! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lf3mgmEdfwg And after this wagon(s)....we know why John drank!
