This morning it was a balmy 18 degrees when I left for work I decided to let the car warm up for about 5 minutes before work. So go out, start the car and head back inside. Well guess what? The damn thing locked the doors with the key in the ignition and car running!! All I can say is thankfully the rear window doesn't work so I was able to lift up and it dropped so I could open the car and get to work. I wouldn't wish one of these cars on anyone. But it's paid off so I'll drive it till it dies since it's worth about nothing. Why would it do this? It doesn't make any sense what so ever. Another engineering marvel from the Ford Motor Company.
Thats a new one on me. Glad you were able to get in without having to call a lock pick. I dont put much stock in newer vehicles any more. Best of luck to ya and i hope that nothing else happens to you or your focus. You know why they named it Focus? Because its the one they dont do any more.
Would a lame joke be appropriate here? I don't care, here one is. Back in the day, two new, inexperienced New Orleans prostitutes went up to see a photographer to get some photos made for the madams book. When they struck their poses, the photographer bent down behind the camera and pulled the cloth over his head, and squinted through the lens. The dumber of the two girls asked her companion: Whats he doin'??? Her slightly brighter companion said: "Dumb girl, He's got to focus!" The friend replied: "Focus?.... Both us????"
77 we have had self lockin doors doors for near on 15 years (time lock they callit) it should only get you once if you remember. PB gust love your Focus
There should be a procedure to turn that feature off. Check your manual. This one may be for a later year Focus. http://www.focusfanatics.com/howtos/autolock/
My tenant locked his keys in his ride, no extra key, was late for work. I broke in, then told him....go get a extra key cut! A day or so later I asked him if got a extra key cut, he said no...
Yep, my 99 escort did the same thing to me the other day, hosed it off before taking it thru the main car wash here at work, and when I went to get back in, the doors had locked, with the key in the ignition...you got me, that never happened before.
First off I prepared my wife for Pine Box's joke explaining he lives in an area where mouses play! She did laugh. Maybe not at the joke but my explanation of some of those Florida members. To keep this on topic, which I like to do, my Dodge truck locks lock at about 10MPH. Never got out and shut doors with the engine running so not sure about that great safety feature. Very first time I drove it to town I did leave the keys in the ignition when we got out. Hadn't had time to hide-a-key. Lucky a friend was passing by at the flea market and took us home and back to get the spare key and remote. Nearly nine years and haven't needed the spare key yet. Yes, it's still there! The day I loose the hide-a-key will be the day I leave the other keys inside the truck.:banghead3:
Denny, I HATE!!!! that about our Dodge truck. I'm an adult, I can lock my own doors whenever I like, thank you very much.
Deb's Escape is like Cat's truck.... you start driving away and even if you have the windows rolled down the doors lock. I have no idea though if they lock while the key is in the ignition or it's running. If it's frosty out I go start warm up Deb's ride while she's getting ready for work. I allways lock the door, because the thing is running and I'm walking back into the house........ I guess we are back to......why would you not have a extra key? I can understand the "I was at work and... I was somewhere and...... but to not have a extra key at all, and your at home:confused:
Most people don't have an extra key because----"I'll get one later." Or " I never lock my key in the car. I don't need an extra key." "It costs too much for another key." The local locksmith is not cheap! That is if you can get him when you need him. We did find out that if we hit the unlock button while the truck is moving that the doors remain unlocked until restarted. But we actually do feel safer with them locked in most places. Back when I went to school and worked I often left the windows down all day or night. And left tapes or other things on the seats. We need people telling us what to do and watching out for us so we don't get in trouble. I just hope I'm not here when mandatory roll bars and helmets are required in cars. Reinforced roofs and a dozen air bags are already here.
While managing a Tuffy's Auto Repair, it happened once and I instituted a 'leave the window open' rule, because of self-locking doors! Cat - I drive a 04 Dodge Ram 10mpg 4-wheel drive pos for work, and they don't self lock unless it's going 10mph - I checked it out!
