Hi, just bought a 1987 Mercury Colony Park yesterday...it's the newest old car that I have owned (most of my experience is with 50s/60s cars) and my first wagon. That said, I can't figure out a problem that I encountered today.

I put the key in the doorgate lock, turned to the left, and the window went down. Now it won't go back up. I took the inside panel off and can't find any loose connections. I also can't manually force the window back up. I tried the switch on the dash, but no go. I don't know the car well enough yet to know what fuse to check, or if there is another problem.

Can anyone suggest a fix? I don't like leaving my rear window down, especially with rain coming.

    Thanks, Parks

P.S. Does anyone know any trusted repair shops in the San Fernando Valley that understand these cars? I just moved here, as well as buying a new car.

    Fixed it.

Never mind, I figured it out. I pulled out and cleaned up the window limit switch, and then made sure that the doorgate was securely closed and locked. The window went up easily after that.

Making sure that the doorgate was secured and locked was not easy. It took several tries, so that's something that I'll have to look into.

Doesn't it make you feel good when you figure out something on your own? Post up some pics of that Colony Park. I wonder if you got that real nice one i had noticed in the local CL down there recently........

I was looking for a '86-'91 Colony Park myself recently, until something else caught my eye.....

Haven't had much chance to take pics yet, it started raining not long after I brought the beast home.

Here is one taken by the previous owner:

And one I took right after I got the window to roll up. Sitting on the hood is my daughter, who will soon inherit the car:

What does she think of the idea? Buying the station wagon was her idea. Evidently, these wagons are cool among some teenagers and young adults nowadays, especially girls. The guy who sold me the Merc told me that the only calls he got on the car were from young women.

Not to be a killjoy, but the only wagon I ever considered was either a Studebaker or a '61 Valiant wagon. Never thought that I would ever have a late '80s Mercury.

I was going to guess that! Retro is cool sometimes.

One thing's for sure. She'll be the hit of the party as far as taking people TO the party!

Thanks, I was lucky to find it. I jumped on it as soon as I saw it because I know that these don't often survive in this condition.

nice car, it's the same color of my previous colony park, the paint look nice.

your problem with the rear electric windows, is maybe in the tailgate, you can remove the plastic trim, and unplug the electric motor, try to activate it with a 12v battery to roll up the windows,

If it work, you should check the switch of the doorgate lock
If it does not work, your motor is fail and you must replace it,

    good luck

I have an 85 Colony Park. I have been through everything with the tailgate....including issues with the window, door not locking, and the tailgate not swinging down flat. There are several threads on here already with info about that. The most recent one listed as "tailgate lock fixed". I have had to rebuild 4 out of the 5 window motors in the year that I have owned mine. It is an easy job, even for someone with limited experience with cars, like myself. Costs less than 10 bucks per window. Keep in touch and I'll be glad to help out. Congrats on your find. The color is gorgeous. Get a bottle of Vinylex at the auto parts store. 10 bucks but worth every cent. Spray it sparingly on the wood panels after washing....then buff/rub it in with a clean cloth. It will bring them back to life and even out the color some.
    Regards,
    Mike
