I wouldn't believe anything this dealer says he has misrepresented the car. Looks more like a restoration to me. If it was all original where is the original exhaust system?
A new exhaust system on a 1200 mile car?
There is something wrong it has aluminumized true dual exhaust system with after market hi flow cats. I had a 78 Country Squire wagon single exhaust with 2 cats and a y pipe.

Look at the wood trim it's not aligned properly it is way off that factory would not had done that bad of a job ( look at right door)

The paint is fresh and so is the wood grain decal which has been waxed look closely and you can see small circles of white spots.

under the hood. it has the wrong air breather piping,it never came with that style of cold air intake and a aluminum breather( mine was painted and has a black plastic flex pipe running to the radiator core support).

The transmission pans were never painted on these cars or undercoated with bed liner coating.

The odometer numbers are off slightly like they have been reset.

I hate seeing dealers trying to pass off a restored car as original

This is really a case of "if it sounds too good to be true....". I don't have so much detailed knowledge about this car, but I was already wondering about that very modern looking cold air intake breather duct. Looks very nice though....
I have no idea what the reserve is, but even if this would be a restored car, it would still be worth more then $8000,-, or not?

Look at all of the black overspray underneath, the blue paint on the pan, and the new exhaust, just for starters!

I would not let the trim misalignment be a deal killer - hell, I'd have been leery if the trim HAD lined up right! Misalignments were commonplace during the Malaise Era. Quality was NOT Job One at Ford then, not by a long shot.

Yes, I did notice that overspray as well and thought it quite odd. Its still a super nice car though - actual miles or not. I would still take it as a gift.

    Car looks legit to me.....

Assuming the odometer is accurate, this car has just been sitting around most of its life. With the dealer in Twin Falls, Idaho, I would speculate that it belonged to some wealthy Sun Valley, Idaho resident who only used it during the fair-weather months (probably had a 4WD when he was up there in the winter). Exhaust and breather tube probably just wore out from sitting. I would imagine the selling dealer had to do some 'clean-up' to get the car looking like it does now. Certainly a good investment with the rest of it looking so nice.

Been going around thinking for a while... and I think the whole thing kind of makes my head spin :). It takes time to discover what you really like, and also what is realistic. I would say that each decade has it's high points. I find old cars beautiful to look at I still think when we go into the early half of fifties that become kind of too old, that unless you hotrod them and then I think I rather hotrod something non wagon.

While there are very nice Ford and Mopar wagon, I'm more or less a GM only type of girl. We kind of have found it much easier to just have one brand if you have a large number of classics. After all Buick, Olds, Cad, Chevy and Pontiac share quite a few components and if they don't share the component then the engineering is quite similar so it makes your life pretty easy from a fix it your self perspective :).

Aanyways for me this is the list of Ultimate wagons:

1958 Buick Caballero (have this one)
    1960 Chevrolet Nomad
    1968 Chevrolet Kingswood (Caprice)
1970/72 Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser (have this one)
1975/76 Buick Estate Wagon (hopefully have this one)

    Cheers Dyna

PS: There are nice other wagons for me like the 76/77 Vista, the square back Buick Estate wagons of the eighties, the Roadmaster of the nineties if we talk GM but kind of don't make it to the list of ultimate wagons

Will probably never have the Chevys on my little list, for me the sixties is about Cadillacs :)..

That Ford is a beauty no matter what has been done. Back in the day, 1976 I needed a car to go cross country in with two kids. My 73 Pinto Squire was not up to the task size wise.

My wife and I dropped in to the local Ford dealer (Holiday in Sunnyvale, Ca.). In the showroom was a fully loaded white LTD squire with all the options and had the red interior. What a beautiful car. $10,300 was a bit much for us as Navy pay for me = $140 per week after taxes.

We settled for a used 73 Gran Torino SW instead for $3,200. But I sure would have liked to had that Squire.:thumbs2:
