    user8369_pic886_1252279264_thumb.jpg [/ATTACH]Hello to all,

My name is Les Putnam and I joined this site because I like station wagons of all makes. I am currently restoring a 1967 Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser wagon, but I am customizing it with the intent of creating a one of a kind with a pro street approach. Currently all body work has been done, including suicide rear doors, shaved door handles, 95 Cadillac LED tail lights, 3rd brake light, custom dash, console, hood. My intent is to remove the 330 that currently resides in the engine compartment and replace it with a 455. I have the design in my head for the interior, but I haven't executed that part of the project. I am considering an Art Morrison frame, but that will probably have to wait.

Welcome aboard! I'd love to see some larger pics to see that work you've described. You've got big aspirations for that wagon! Art Morrison chassis - that'll make it a cone-carver for sure. Top it off with a 455 and you'll have a screamer!

Welcome to the forum Les!! Great looking project you have there! I am at the interior stage as well on my custom, seems like the hardest part, getting the vision and the reality together. Have fun!

Thank you Dewey Satellite for the kind words, you may have communicated this in previous posts before I signed on, but I was wondering what you did to get your wagon as low as it is? Nice looking wagon, by the way!

    Big Barney's Cars,

I wanted to try something different because even though the pictures look great, this wagon had a lot of rust issues. I have always liked shaved door handles on doors, some of my friends have tried converting the four door look to 2 doors but I thought a suicide rear door would be something I personally haven't seen, before. Very difficult to execute properly, by the way, another difficult task was getting the three guage dash pod to look good. Challenges are what make this hobby fun.

Well Les the car is on hydraulic suspension, but not the "hopping" type the pumps both have a gas charged accumulator that makes it keep that big floaty ride it had originally. Front tortion bars removed and upper bump stops and brackets removed, in the rear half ton Dodge pickup leafs were destacked with a 3" block on top and a Toyota Tacoma overload leaf under the block to provide stability at ride height. The end result is a car that won't roll all the way down...best security system ever. Thanks for the compliment about my big green baby!
