I start this with a few embarrasing shot of what my Wife notso Plolitly terms my Hill Billy car lift. Our 83 Cutlass Cruiser had blown the trans coming home late one night. And I used my Car trailer and a set of ramps to get it off the ground enough to change the T-350C for a 200R4 that was ready to go. At least I had enough brains to use a tow chain to make sure the car didn't roll off the trailer!!!! My wife says she did up the life insurance after watching me do this.

I do like the audiance I had in the 1st shot, Our olds Greyhounds Eddie, Freedom, and the Greyhound/Blacj & Tan Mix Bruno

I think that's brilliant! About as safe as you can get without an actual lift. Nice.

There seems to be a fine line between redneck and genius. I see you took all the safty percautions, chained it up, blocked the wheels and life insurance up dated. (y)

    I mean really...

When I pulled my wagons trans, my set up was much scarier. I recall when jacking up the rear diff thinking "if a mouse farted on this car right now, I would be screwed"...tense moments for sure.

I see no reason to think this is not a good idea. Looks safe and it got the wagon up where it was needed.
I'm just glad no one took pictures of me loading and unloading some of my cars with my car trailer when we moved. My trailer is not a dove tail trailer and has a set of steep ramps. To load I unhooked the trailer from my van and using the hand winch I cranked it up on the trailer with the front lifted to full hight. As the car was pulled up on the rear of the trailer, the trailer would raise up higher in front. I'd continue so the trailer would drop slowly back onto the front trailer post.
In Florida I had dug a small ramp in the ground with 2X12's for a framework. Unloading was easy. But those loading events were sometimes a little tricky.
Six cars and no problems. Safety first ? :banghead3:
We've changed many transmissions here using only those cheap metal ramps and a jack. :floor_jack::floor_jack:

Oh, so we're gonna see who can out-dumb each other? Well, one time I got ran over by my 20' boat - in my driveway. Thought the driveway was level enough that it wouldn't roll - wrong. Then I thought I could stop it by myself from the front - wrong again. Then I thought I could get out of the way - more wrong. It finally stopped when it rolled across the road and nearly launched itself into the lake with me firmly pinned underneath. I got a couple of nice scars on both legs and sold the boat shortly after that. That was over 20 years ago and I learned a good lesson that day. Haven't been ran over by any of my stuff since! Although a bunk-bed did try to jump me when my back was turned about 10 years ago, but that's another story...

I don't know if this is bragging or complaining but------------- If we haven't screwed up several times we haven't been doing anything.
If this is true, I've been very busy!;)

Unfortunately, no pics for this one, and it's from the pre-digital age. Not sure I would have wanted a 'record' of this one.

I had just moved out of the folk's house in late 1970 and was going to college, also taking a general auto mechanics class at the college. Folks' 1963 Ford Falcon (the one i learned to drive in) had just given up the ghost - probably something to do with lack of regular oil changes (hey - it wasn't my car....) Folks needed a second car, so dad (my dad's from England I might add here) spies this little red '60 Sunbeam Alpine for sale. This is about the last car I would have expected my dad to buy. Convertible? Foreign? Stick Shift? Well it drove OK, but a few weeks later my sister gets pulled over driving it. Cop gives her a 'smog ticket' for excessive pollution. Verdict was that the engine was badly in need of a complete rebuild. (Must be the reason dad got it so cheap....) Stupid 19 year-old me volunteers to rebuild the engine in the Alpine. Prior engine rebuilding experience? Well, you gotta start somewhere.......

Tried to do as best I could on it. Honed the cylinders, miked the bores and bearing surfaces, got the proper sized bearings, etc. Got it all back together, but never did get it to run properly. Had a few extra parts left over when the job was done. I later figured out they probably had something to do with the oil pickup in the pan.....

Folks never asked me to do any vehicle maintenance again.

While moving here in Florida I was attacked by a console model TV my wife and I were carrying up only a few stairs. Her end mysteriously was dropped.
Once I was helping a friend move a very heavy piano out from upstairs in one of those old houses with high ceilings. That piano came down the stairs and attacked me!
I'm still trying to forget the 30' tree branch that poked me in the eye way last July. Spent another afternoon today letting nurses and doctors poke me in the eye.

Guys, hate to say it but they don't count unless you have pic's to prove it.

Like this one, a good friend of mine removeing a rare Tilt steering Column from a 69 Grand Prix in a salvage Yard

Can you Find Poncho in the pic? Try and ignore the poor long Roof in the picture

I have a health issue so overdoing can be my undoing, if you get my drift. I struggle with not doing my own stuff so seldom request assistance from the many friends who have volunteered to assist, usually saying no until I finally get things done or a few times can't complete the project and have to give in.

My wife out of frustration pasted the phone number for the B.C.'s coroner's office beside the phone as a not so subtle reminder that I'm overdoing things. :whew: She says she wants it handy so they can come collect the corpse before it gets smelly and embarrassing :rofl2: and to ensure they validate that she had nothing to do with my demise and she can collect the life insurance :49::cry:

I'm being told by friends and family that my headstone will read "I think I might have overdone things a bit today" :banghead3:
