    Dyna,
What I meant by "ultimate" was the one station wagon that you would choose above all others if you had the finances and the car was available. In other words, the one wagon that is at the top of your want list - practical or fantasy want list, that is. I guess that I should have made myself more clear. gary:):):)

I could help if you narrow the definition of "Ultimate" a bit. If you are refeering to ultimate, STOCK, unmodded wagon, then I'd say any of the 300+ plus hp BMW, Audi, or even an SRX Subbie.

If you're meaning, the ultimate, no holds bard, money is no object, build any way you can wagon, well then, I have a list:
    1. My current wagon, suspention completely rebuilt, lowered 2 inches, smoothed, shaved, painted two tone, with a twin-turbo LS7 under the hood.
    2. A 80's era Malibu wagon with similar mods.
    3. A mid 70's Malibu wagon with a nose from a Laguna Chevelle SS, Also smoothed and shaved, but with a naturally asperated (sp?) 454 built for torque.
    4. A Hemi powered Dodge Aspen wagon. I like odd stuff.
    5. A Vega wagon powered by the 260hp Ecotec 4 banger used in the Cobalt SS. Take that you imports!
    6. A mildly modded 79 Chrysler Town and Country. I don't know what I'd do to it... Somebody give me one so I can Find out!
All I can think of right now.

    1951 Mercury Woody
    1957-1964 Mercury Colony Park
1957 Mercury Villager or Commuter 2 door hardtop wagon
These all had great style. With the exception of the 51, rode real nice, and could be bought with decent factory options. Ultimate wagons in my opinion. A bit biased because I'm a Ford guy, though.

    That's a hard one.
I would love to get my hands on what is said to be the last wagon Mitsubishi Australia built.
2005 Verada wagon built for the managing director.
Pearl white, rare on wagons, black leather interior, wagons never had leather.
    Factory sunroof and privacy glass.
Dual auto dimming outside mirrors with powerfold.
    17" Enkie cross spoke wheels.
Black leather Ralliart steeringwheel. Nardi wood gear selector. MMC stereo/DVD/navigation with steering wheel remote.
    Dual electric front seats.
    Diamante centerconsole armrest.
    Woodprint console trim.
    Blueprinted 180kw 3.5 V6
    Ralliart big brakes.
    Koni shocks and strut brace.

Failing that I would like to do all that on mine:)

I could not agree more. The 59' Impala Nomad 4dr (high optioned) is on the top of my list of wagons. I only wish the Impala Nomad had of been available in the 3-seat model.

Strange they reserved that only for the Bel-Air Kingswood. I wonder if one could have "special ordered" a 3-seat Impala Nomad in 1959 or 1960?

    My next choices would be:
1973 Caprice Estate wagon (loaded, 3-seat, dark bronze model)
1973 Pontiac Grand Safari wagon (loaded, 3-seat, light green w/woodgrain option)
1973 Ford LTD Country Squire wagon (loaded, 4-seat, Brougham option (but without the lounge seats), dark blue or light green in color.

What a great thread here. It opens the floodgates for everyone here to reflect on our favorite model(s) and perhaps even why our favorite model is what it is. I've enjoyed reading everyone's responses thus far.

I suspect for many of us our answers are influenced by childhood experiences and memories. Well, this is certainly true for me. :yup: So, without doubt, without hesitation, my answer to the question, "What wagon is the ultimate wagon to you?" is Chevrolet's clamshell ("Glide-Away") wagon. I'd take any model year between the 1971 and 1976 offerings, in any color combination, six or nine passenger with any level of options. :thumbs2: These cars were (ARE) stylish, comfortable, and functional; and what more can be said about the smart design of the tailgate?

As the owner of one of these beauties, my ultimate wagon, I consider myself blessed and very fortunate. If there was anything I could change, it would be the accessibility of wagon-specific parts to help keep these beauties looking and feeling their best. :2_thumbs_up_-_anima

I would love to get my hands on a Brazilian dealer converted Ford Maverick Wagon. Only about 200 were converted in the late 70s and they are very rare.

I think if I had a choice of the 1959 Chevs, it would have to be the Kingswood 9 Passenger. The Nomad would be a close second. But if I had a choice of ANY wagon, I think it would have to the 1950 Chevy Deluxe station wagon with wood grain. SO cool.

    That sure is a beauty.

I'll bet it's value today narrows the spread to one of these Ultimates for the poor folk on Wall Street:
