New Shocks I just ordered some new Monroe Heavy Duty Shocks for the wagon from RockAuto. They were the least expensive place I could find for OEM shocks. Once they arrive in a few days I'll have them installed and see how much of a difference they will make. The ones on there now look to be original so yall can imagine at 60 MPH the "floating" feeling it gets. I am also just under 1K miles too, so it will need an oil change and carb adjustment. I thought I was doing some good driving, but since October 2011 I have just put 1K miles on her. Will update as new things come along.
Sometime, gpd, you should make a before and after thread showing your car, as much as possible, in the same photographic angles before and after all the work you have done.
I don't know how you missed it before in a previous post, but here it is again: http://www.kodakgallery.com/ShareLanding.action?c=zovqivs.3em8ppmo&x=0&h=1&y=1 iihgf&localeid=en_US Enjoy!
Holy smokes GPD, you have done an outstanding job of bringing your wagon back to life. Very nicely done.
She looks out of this work terrific. Too bad you ordered the Monroe shocks, though. The Ford gas shocks are available, for less money than Monroes, and work much better. If the local Ford dealer says they aren't, tell him to look up a 77 LTD II wagon. They certainly are, and they are the same as the Torino/Gran Torino wagon shocks. I got a set for Nora, and had them in hand the next day, for $145 Canadian, taxes (13%) in.
Thanks again Guys for all the support throughout the project. It still needs a few things here and there, but I'll get em done eventually...
Took the wagon out this weekend and noticed that the ride quality is 10 times better with the new shocks, but it seems to wander to the left now. I had an alignment done back when the motor was put in so I called them up and they said to drop it off again and that they would take care of it free of charge I think next on the list is getting the bedliner sprayed in the third row seat foot well area so I can get the seat belts installed and the kiddos can experience a few rides back there before they get too big to fit. Let me tell ya though driving down the highway at 70 MPH with the windows rolled down gets ya plenty of "air conditioning".
4th of July 2012 I hope everyone had a great 4th of July! We took the kiddos out to an Airshow / Fireworks display and enjoyed it all from the comfort of the back of the wagon. Well, maybe a lil too comfortable. Whats with All the Paparazzi??? http://share.shutterfly.com/action/welcome?sid=0AZMXLlq3YsmjiI
Yup! Exactly, this was another reason I wanted to restore this wagon back to the one I remember as a kid. I wanted to pass along those great memories I had down to my kids... I'm sure they will always remember the 4th of July where Mom and Dad took them to the airshow and they saw fireworks while sitting in the back of the wagon.
Checkin' in Hey Guys, not much been going on with the wagon as of late. Since I don't have A/C and it's been like a GAGILLION degrees out I haven't really been driving the wagon around. I did manage to change my avatar though. I hope everyone is doing well.
