I agree Saf! The new pics are lacking the "life" of the old ones. We have a street here in Ogden, Ut that is called historic 25th st, they have gone to great lengths to keep the buildings like they were in the early 1900's people come from all over the country just to stroll.

Thanks Tedy - and did you happen to notice my trailer in those pictures?

Me neither - how could one tell?

Those were big days for Airstream owners.

It is nice to see a City with the foresight to do this, too many get run over by the Walmart's and Target's who draw the public out to the outside areas of town and kill the downtowns of old.

Couldn't find an older pic to put up with this one but you get the idea.

Very much reminds me of "some" of the old streets still left alone in down town Victoria. One thing that has been happening construction wise down town in the last few years is.... They tear down the complete old structure but leave the origonal brick/stone store/office front.... imagine a wall, thats it. New building buit behind it but the origonal store front remains. I'll see if I can find some construction pics to help better explain.

They have done that "facia" work on this street as well Tedy, all brand new behind the front facad. Cool stuff. My wife and I have a shop on this street the regulations for the remodeling it needed were very strict.

Very neat looking. The street seems so much more functional and "alive". Change the cars and it could be any year the cars reflect. What else is neat is - no parking meters. :1st:

Holy cow, 700 pages and climbing. Glad I went through these WAY back so I'd have a life. To start now would take me a week full time appreciating all the pictures, the comments, etc.

    Hey, where's Orth?

I've seen this picture before in the Everett Herald here is the caption:

"The Space Needle restaurant was built atop a big doughnut-shaped track and turntable manufactured by Western Gear Corp. in Everett. On Nov. 7, 1961, a test run of the mechanism was conducted in Everett at the Western Gear parking lot. A makeshift platform, with a table and chairs, was placed on the 94.5-foot ring. The turntable made one complete rotation in an hour. Pictured, according to the Museum of History & Industry, are "waitress-model" Kathy Dolan; A.H. Fast, project architect with John Graham & Co.; L.A. Myhre, vice president and division manager of Western Gear Corp; Jack Borg, president of Top of the Needle Inc.; and Harlan S. Bixby, vice president of Howard S. Wright Construction Co.
