Prior to lowering my wagon, I had new dual exhausts installed exiting at the factory location; on each side behind the rear wheels and no finished tips. After lowering, the exhaust was banging around and in the way, so I cut them off at the exit of each Flowmaster 40, removing 5+ feet that went over the axle and out the side at the rear of the wagon. I went back to the muffler shop to have the exhaust exit in front of the rear wheels, and finished in stainless steel 7.5" x 2" rectangle tips. The exhaust pipe is 2.5" from the exhaust mainfolds to the tips. What do you think?
It is a neat idea. According to my exhaust guy, though, for a Windsor engine, 2 1/4 is the size of pipe that scavenges best. Even the 351M in Nora has 2 1/4 inch pipes to the FlowMaster DeltaFlows, and then 2 1/4 out the back. It is a SWEET sounding set up.
Not too many speed bumps around here but that's a good call. I'm going to a spot where I know they're located and see how the wagon handles it. My driveway curb doesn't present any issues.
No - actually the exhaust tip is about 3" behind the edge of the rear door exit. When you sit in the rear seat and look down to try and find the exhaust tip, you have to lean out to see it. It does set off car alarms in the parking garage where I work in downtown Kansas City. I like that for some reason.
thats what i was thinking too it looks good....but im a traditionalist...mine are all outback... (pun intended) for Dennis
My 390 has duals that exit just behind each rear wheel. Previous owner installed Flowmasters that are too loud. If I'm really being critical, the 'split' sound isn't very pleasing to my ear...my brother's 'Vette with side pipes has a similar sound. Without hearing those other 4 pulses, it's like I'm listening to an out of time 4 cylinder. PLanning to put quiet mufflers on it. Exiting out the back isn't really an option because of my driveway angle.
I've heard it described a lot of different ways, but not an out of time 4 cylinder. Green Machine - do you think a Cobra sounds the same way? Mine is no way close to a Cobra, but I'm liking it. It's probably too loud for most - I'm a gray-haired teenager, so I like 'em a little loud. You can hold a conversation in the wagon without raising your voice. Plus there's that settin' off car alarm thing that makes me
I hate excessively loud exhausts unless it's at the race track. I will admit that while I never really did like them, I now truly hate them because invariably some nitwit will blast up the road at 1:00AM and wake up my sleeping children (ages 6, 4, 2, 11 mo). That makes me want to buy a surplus spike strip and wait up all night for him (her?) to roll by with the pedal to the metal and the cracking pipes and eliminate the problem for a while. And unfortunately where I live, almost every V8 pickup has straight piped exhaust with no cats and they crack like fireworks. Not that I think you would be so irresponsible as to blast down a 35 MPH residential street at 1:00 AM at WOT going 80 MPH cracking the pipes and waking up the kids...
:2_thumbs_up_-_anima Mate is there no better way to go than being a GREY-HAIRED teenager with a little burbelle fom downunder
Did you notice a boost in fuel economy since you lowered it? I heard lowering a car might help that. Well you could just kindly ask whoever it is to blast it somewhere else, Like at a racetrack. And if that doesn't work the first time, Keep asking until he/she stops.
