Thanks all and especially new member JPT for thinking of and sharing experiences of our veterans. I think we have grown as a country(USA) from the old days of the crappy treatment returning Vietnam War(some called it a "conflict" I guess ignorant of what really went on over there) to the vets, young and old, being truly appreciated in Newnan, GA. For instance, our Transportation Director, doesn't miss an opportunity in a group setting to call out the names of our school transportation associates who served our country in the military. I'm sure at our annual meeting in July before the school year begins again there will be 400+ people applauding and recognizing our service men and women. As some mentioned though.............some people still just don't get it.

My Dad was in Korea and Vietnam he was in a helicopter in both wars, said it was great in Korea and a nightmare in Vietnam. He was shot down twice in Vietnam and barely survived the second time. He was a great man and a stern but fair father, he retired from the military as an Air Force drill instructor in 1976, then worked for OSHA until 1986, he retired again but passed in 1990 from a surgical complitcation. I miss him everyday and yesterday I honored him with a flag in my yard and a lump in my throat.

A great story and a great man, Dewey. I consider your dad and all like him to be heroes of our nation. Thanks for sharing your private moment with us.

You're welcome Fox and thank you, in the years since my fathers passing I have had people in my life who helped me not miss him so much, I consider you and Model T among those who eased my pain to some degree, even if it's just to give me a playful jab or a word of encouragement. Thanks to you both.
